Description

- Anson irnnrlranson, or acuarela-n, rLLirNoIs'.
',jEAsEL.
Applicationfiiled December 16, 1919. y Serial No. 345,249.
To all whom it may concern.' Y p Be it known that I, AARON llnnMANsoN,
a citizenof the United States, residing at Rockford, in the ycounty of l/Vinneba'go, State of Illinois, have invented a V'newand useful Easel.; and I do hereby declare the following to be ay full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as 'will enable. others skilled in the art to which;
it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to easels and has for its object to'provide aneasel formed from wire and particularly adapted for supporting a small glass and so formed as to hold a picture in engagement withsaid glass. f
A further object is to provide an easel comprising a substantially rectangular shaped glass engaging and holding member said rectangular shaped member having pivotally secured to the upper end thereof a U-shaped member, the tree end of which4 being adapted to engage the support for supporting the easel, there being a brace pivotally secured to the lower end of the rectangular 'frame and formed from a single piece of wire, the ends of said wire being provided with eyes slidably engaging the U-Shaped member and limited in the'irg downward movements by offset portions carried by said U-shaped member.
With thel above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment ot' the invention be Vmade within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the in vention.
Injthe drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the easel showing the same supporting a glass.
Fig. 2'is a rear view of the easel showing the same in folded position.
Fig. 3 is a collective view of the three Y membersforming the easel.
Referring to the drawings, the numerall `Vl designates a rectangular shaped frame the upper edge of the glass.
formed from a single pieceot wire, said ywire being bent upon itself as at 2 and 3 so as to form a centrally disposed glass engaging hook l adapted to engage over The wire in turn being bent as at 5 so as to form horizontal portions, said'horizontal portions be'- ing bent so as' to provide (eyes Gv and de.`
pending larms 7." The arms 7 at points spaced from their'flowerv ends are bent upon themselves so, as tofiorm eyes v8, which form pivotal pointsjfra brace9, said arms'- 7 having their lower ends bent upwardly so as to:v form'members 10 adapted to engagevover and receive'the lowe'rvend o lfthe glass 11.` "It will-beseenfthatthe rectangular frame'l is formed from asingle piece-ot -wire and that the member l is also formed 1 Brace 9 isformed Vfrom a single piece' oli'r "wire and comprises a substantially trans- Verselyfdis'posed portion 16, which portion is bent `as at '17 so as to provide parallelpor.- tions 18, said wire being in turn benty upon itself as at 19 thereby forming arms ZOwhich are parallel Vto the portions 18, the benty portions 19 being disposedl in the eyesfS, which tormpivotal'points forV the brace'Q.
Arms 2O have their ends` vprovided withV eyes Q1 which eyes are slidably mounted on "l ,Snecetion Gf Lettersletnt Fatented Nov. 29,f'19l21., i
the arms 'of the U-shaped leg 17.3 and the slid" ing of said eyes in a y downward position;
being limited by the shoulders 15er the 'leg 13. Thus 1t will be seen thatv the brace 9 at its outer endwill belimited in its downward movement and as the` shoulders 15 are so positioned so that said brace 9 will not be able to assume a position at right angles to the frame l, that it will be only loo v necessary to force' the lower end of Vthe leg 13 inwardly t0 cause"v the outer end or' thel brace' 9 tofslide upward-ly whichA will allow the folding of the ram'eas ka whole."
From the aboveitfwill beseen that an ease is providedV which easel vis formed entirely from wire and thatfthe parts soitormed are reduced to a minimun. 'lt will also be 1101 seen that by the particularly lbent-brace member 9, that the spreading oty the arm 7 of the frame 1 will be preventedin an'outsaid brace cannot assume a right angle posileg.
tion to the frame l, thereby preventing the folding Vof the legmember 13 by simply applying pressure to the free end or" said vThe invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A wire easel formed from three substantially U-shaped members, one of said members having its ycentral horizontal portions provided with a hook adapted to hook over the upper end of an article, said hook being formed by bending the wire forming the member so as to form vertically disposed adjacent parallel portions, said vertically disposed parallel portions adj acent'the horizontal vportions vbeing' provided with outwardly extending bends, a loopv extending around the vertically disposed` portions between the outwardly extending bends and the horizontally disposedportions for hold-v ing said vertically disposed portions against spreading, said bent out portions forming means for preventing longitudinal move lbeing provided witholset portions, the
other U-shaped wire member having its arms slidably mounted and connected to the arms of the supporting U-shaped member and at points above its oifset portions which form limiting stops, said last named U-shaped member being pivotally connected `to the downwardly extending arms of the Y lirst mentioned article receiving U-shape'd member and forming means for bracing and holding the supporting member. l
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
