Description
W. WENDERHOLD AND C. UEBELMESSER. BELT CONNECTION.
APPLICATION FILED 020.13, 1917.

I"! lull? alas UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM WENDERHOLD AND CHARLES UEBELMQESSER, OF NEVVYORK, N. Y., ASSIGNORS TO CRU PATENTS CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
BELT CONNECTION.
l atented Nov. 22, 1921;
Application filed December 13, 1917. Serial No. 206,882.
To all whom it may concern:
B it known that we, WILLIAM YVVENDER- rroLn and CHARLns UEBELMESSER, a citizen of the United States, and a citizen of the German Empire, respectively, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt Connections, oi which the following is a clear, full, and. exact description.
Our invention relates to couplings and connections, more particularly for use with steel bands.
The object of the invention is to provide couplings that are simple, easily made and also adaptable to the smallest diameter pulleys.
It is a well known. fact that steel bands are better conveyors of power than leather and are also more eflicient, more durable and much cheaper to manufacture.
The diiiiculty heretofore experienced was that there wasno simple, reasonably cheap coupling available, and after long and many experiments we have perfected a number of simple couplings for use on steel belts.
As shown in our drawings, our couplings can all be mounted easily, and the peculiar construction thereof guard against breaking at the joints of the belt.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a cross-section through one type of coupling.
Fig. 2 is a top View of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section through slightly modified construction embodying our invention.
Fig. is a top view of Fig. 3.
As shown in Fig. 1 the steel band 1 is broken off and only two ends are shown. (I and D are the ends which are laid around the guard blocks 8 and 9. Between 8 and coupling.
As shown in Fig. 3, this type 1s substantially the same as that shown in Fig. 1,
with the exception 01 the center block 13 being one piece instead'of two pieces as 10 and 11.
iilany other modifications have been made and tested by us, and the most practical have been set forth in this application, as
giving the greatest durability against breakage of the belt-sand insuring a most satisfactory and safe gripping surface with the pulley with which the coupling and belt c0- operate.
iVhile we have shown and described specilic structures embodying the principles of our invention, we wish it to be understood that our invention is to be limited or restricted only in accordance with the scope oi? the attached claims and various changes in details of construction will readily ap pear to those skilled in the art coming with in the spirit and scope of our invention. What we claim as our invention is: 1. A. belt coupling comprising a pair of convex members, a central block memberhaving a concave face to correspond to and" to cooperate with the convexity of the pulley, said block member also having concave contour surfaces to form a snug fit with said convex members and adapted to receive the belt ends between the same and said convex members, and means for clamping said members and said belt ends together. V
2. A belt coupling comprising a pair of convex members, a central block member of concave contour to form a snug fit with said convex members and adapted to receive the belt ends between the same and said convex members, said central block member having a concave "face corresponding to the convexity of a pulley with which said block member cooperates, and a screw passing through said members and said belt ends to clamp the same together.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 8" day of December, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen.
iVILLIAM VVENDERHOLD. CHARLES UEBELMESSEP.
