have: invented certain newnand useful 1mrovements in: GuneStocks, of whichthe .fol-
Owing is a specification.
9311's iinvention relates to and. has; for its Object the production of a simple and =eificient means for permitting a gun stock to be efficiently attached to a-glln so as to permit thestock to be easily adjusted at different angles-with respect to the gun for permit ting the gun to be adjusted for use by person having a short neck and long arm or vice versa. 7
0 Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and eflicient locking means for holding the stock in a proper position or proper alinement with respect to the barrel of the gun.
25. tions, constructions, and arrangements of With these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinapartsas will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
p of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the locking joint detached from the stock of the gun.
Fig. 5 is a top plan View of the locking joint showing the sections of the joint drawn apart. Fig. 6 is a section taken on the line 66 of Fig. 2.
" vBy referring to the drawing it will be seen that 1 designates the body of the gun to which is adapted to be secured the stock 2 bymeans of the connecting joint 3. This connecting joint 3 comprises a primary section 4 and an auxiliary section 5. The primary section 4 is provided with a project ng flange or web portion 6, which web portion 6 fits in a socket 7 formed in the body 1 of the gun, and a pin 8 passes through the body 1 of the gun and also through the web 6 for firmly securing the primary portion 4 Application fild F ebruary 21,1917.. of the joint to the body ofthe gun. 'The primaryportion 4 ofthejfoint comprises a pairofside jaws9 and a pair of intermediate spaced jaws 10, the aws 10 being smaller than the side jaws 9, as clearlypillustrated in Fig. 5 of thedrawing.
.Therauxiliary portion .of-the joint comprises ahrearwardly extending web portion 11,,whichwebportion 11 fits ina notch12 formed in the stock 2 ofthe gun, and a pin 13 passes .through the sstock .2 :and also through the aperture 14 in "the web portion 11 for firmly securing the auxiliary portion of the joint to the stock. The auxiliary portion of the joint comprises threeprojectting fingers or flanges 15, which fingers 15 are adapted to fit within the sockets 16 formed in the primary portion of the joint, that is to say that the two outer fingers 15 of the auxiliary portion of the joint fit between the central fingers 10 and outer fingers 9 of the primary section of the joint, and the central finger 15 of the auxiliary section fits between the two intermediate fingers 10 of the primary section of the joint. The 8 ends of the fingers 15 and 10 are flattened as indicated by the numeral 17 and these flattened ends are adapted to fit against the flattened shoulder portions 18 and 19 respectively of the primary and auxiliary sections of the joint for limiting the swing of the stock with respect to the barrel of the gun. A securing pin 20 passes through the centrally located aperture 21 formed through all of the fingers 9, 10, and 15 and this pin 20 is provided with an enlarged head 22 and a threaded cap 23 is threaded upon the outer end of the pin 20 and fits in a socket 24 formed in one of the fingers or arms 9 for firmly holding the pin against accidental displacement. The usual stock now employed is shown in full lines in Fig. 1, wherein an adjusted position of the stock is shown in dotted lines for the purpose of illustrating the difi'erent angles at which the stock may be adjusted.
It should be understood that certain detail mechanical changes may be employed in the present device without departing from the spirit of the invention.
