To all 'whom t may concern.' Be it known that I, HARRY A. SHEETZ, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vulcan: izers, of which the following isa specification. y This invention-relates to vulcanizers, and especially tothe small portable v ulcanizer which carries a vulcanizing patch upon a metal receptacle: the receptacle carrying a fuel element-composed o `card board, or other suitable" material, impregnated lwith it saltpeter orsimilar combustible. An object of this invention is to provide upon the receptacle, a means for igniting a match, or other igniter, and to so protect ,the ame from draft and bring it into such relation with the fuel element, that the fuel element inay be quickly ignited under conditions where ignition would be difficult.

In tlie modified form in Fig. 7, I provide aj means of striking the match on the inner surface of the box or receptacle, providing a plurality of dotsf; while in the modified form shown in Fig. 8, I provide a lined roughened surfaceon the inner surface in a similar place to that shown in Fig. 7. In the modified form shown in Fig. 10, I insert in the corner of the bPox or receptacle, which may be either fixed to the box or receptacle, or to the bottom. of the fuel element, or may beleft loose in the bottom of the box and held by the box or otherwise, a piece of lsand paper which provides va roughened surface similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 4. r What is claimed is: 1. In a vulcanizer, the combination of a fuel element and areceptacle for said fuel element, a roughened surface-on the interior Aof said receptacle, the said fuel element removed to provide a pocket and passageway for a match to be' abraded upon said roughened surface.

In a vnlcanizer igniter, the combination of a pan receptacle carrying a fuel ele- 5 ment with a vulcanizng patch on the bottom of said receptacle and a roughened surface on said receptacle for striking a match thereon, and an open'space on said fuel ele'- ment forl the insertion of said match, said open space being adjacent to said roughenedfw surface.
