UNITED STATES PATENT QFFlQE WALTER H. SAWYER, 0F PHILADELPHIA, AND ANDREW G.- BOYD, OF LANSDOWNE,
, PENNSYLVANIA.
CHECK HOLDER AND NO'I'CHER.
Application filed February 17, 1821;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we. Home H. SAWYER and ANDREW C. 13011), citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, in the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and Lansdowne, county of Delaware, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check Holders and Notchers, of which the following is a. specification.
Our invention relates to a holder and notcher for checks, such as sales checks, e1nployed in restaurants and the like, having printed, or otherwise marked thereon, data as to costs, prices, etc, the structure being n'ovided with means for notching, a check ior indicating the amount to be paid, etc.
Our holder and notcher comprises a metallic member provided with means for bolding a pad or stack of checks, and provided further also with notching structure comprising a notching tooth or pointspaced from which is a tongue or platen ext-ending toward the notching tooth or point.
Our invention resides in structure of the character hereinafter described and claimed.
For an illustration of one of the various forms our invention may take, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
.Figure l is a perspective view of our holder and notcher.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional View of the samev Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a pad of checks.
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the holder and notcher, With fastening means therefor, with a check shown in position for notching.
F ig. 5 is a perspective view of the return bend.
Referring to the drawing, integral with the check backing or supporting plate 1 of metal is the upstanding end wall 2 in tegral with whose edge is the forwardly extending member 3 having the return bend 4. The plate 1, opposite the members 3 and 4, is preferably, but not necessarily, roughened, as'indicated at 5, to frictionally engage the stub end 6 of a pad of checks 7, the member 3 overlying the check stubs and the member 4 adapted to press upon the check stubs or to engage the stub binder member 8. which may be a metal wire, staple or the iii-(e. Engaging in the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 1 1921.
Serial No. 445,802.
end wall 2 is the swivel linlr 9, through which may be passed a key ring 10 or equivalent, by which the holder and the checks may be hung upon the hook member 11 integzral with which is the hook 12. which may be passed over a belt or other member ca rried or worn by the operator.
In the plate/1, preferably adjacent its end. opposite the check stubs or Wail l2, is formed, by stainpin or otherwise, an opening 18 of any suit-ab e size Jr-configuration. Integral. with the plate 1 the rota-hing point or tooth 14, projectingpart way across the opening 18 toward thelf lzlifill or t-: lane 15. also integral. with the piate l, and point ing toward the note-hing member.
Preferably, though not-nee al'ily. the tooth or point 1.4. lies in the p.116 f the plate 1, while the side and {sil margins of the opening 13 are bent out of the plane of the plate 1, as indicated in in l and 2, whereby a check 7, Fig 4, may h. passed over the tongue or platen l5 and under the uotching tooth or point 14, in which position the check notched by pulling it across the member 1-1. which notches from the edge thereof :1. piece, leaving a. notch indicative of the amount of purchase, or alfording other data or information.
As indicated. in 5, the check pad engaging end of the return bond 1 may be toothed or serrated for more firmly gripping and holding the pad. 1
What We claim is:
1.. A check hotelier comprising a check supporting ilate having an opening formed t11erein,'and a note-hing member integral and substantially rigid with said plate, said notching member extendin partially across and terminating mater ally short of the opposite side of said opening andlxaving its sides materially spaced froz'n the sides of said opening, whereby a check may be passed over said opening and under said notching member and notched thereby by movement with respect thereto. 2. A check notcher comprising a. check supporting plate having an opening formed therein, a notching member int gral with said plate and extending partial; s said opening. and a. tongue intcin-al t. said plate extending partially :icrosfisai d cps-ning toward said notching member.
3. A (lltPit nah-her comprising a duct: supportin planhating 1n opening fo med therein, a. n:- member numeral mill said plate and extending partially aeross eaid opening. and a tongue integral with said plate extending partially across said opening tmrard said non-hing member. aaid tongue and notching nieinher heing deposed in dillerent planes, wherein a rheek may he passed over said tongue and under said notixhing member.
4. i cheek hotelier eoi'nprising a cheek suppoi ting platev having n opening formed therein, a note-hing member integral with said plate in the plane of said plate and extending partially across said opening. and a tongue integral with said plate extending partially across said opening toward said notrhing member. said tongue and note-hing member heing disposed in different planes, whereby a eheek may be passed orer said tongue and under said note-hing member.
5. A (-heek holder and noteher romprising a plate having adjaeent one end thereof a holder strueture, and adjaeent the opposite end thereof an opening a notehing member integral \vithsaid plate extending partially across said opening, and a tongue integral with said plate extending jlartially arross .said opening toward said notehing member.
(5. A ch ek hol'. er and noteher ioni rising :1 plate having a iii-Went one end ll! holder etru ture, an adjarent the o msite end thereof an opening. a non-hing nii-niher integral with said plate extending; partially arro said openin toward mid other end of said plate, and a tongue integg'ra'. flllll said plate extending luirin'cirdl partially zlLIUSr; said opening inward -said not chine member.
.i heelt holder uni ZlHliliQi eoln n'ising a plate having adjarent on end tlzereof a holder truriure. and adjacent the oppimle end thereof an opening. a note-hing ineinher integral with said plate extending; partially across said opening toward aid other end of said plate. and a tongue integral with said plate extending hael-zuardly partially arross said opening toirai l said notrhing nieniher. said notehinp member and longinbeing disposed in dillerent planes.
In testimony whereof \\e have hereunto aflixed our signatures this lith da of l ehruar y. 1921.
