To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that GEORGE FREDERICK BULL, subject o'f'the King of Great Britain, residing at Small Heath, Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' Thread-Guides of Spinning, Twisting, Doubling, and like Frames, (for which I have filed application in Great Britain, April 10, 1919, Patent No. 137,202,)
of which the following is a specification.
' This invention relates to thread-guide lap pets used in machines for spining, twisting and doubling cotton and like fibers, and has for its object to provide improved means for adjusting the thread guide in relation to the spindle and for holding the said guide in its adjusted position.
According to the said invention the thread guide wire is formed with a worm rack on gaged by a worm mounted within a housing within the body or casing of the lappet and adapted to be rotated by suitable means,
such as a detachable key; and the said worm is acted upon by a spring which exerts a lateral pressure upon said worm so as to hold the same, and consequently the thread-guide, in any adjusted position.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings represents a horizontal section through a thread-guide lappet constructed in accordance with one form of this invention.

Referring to the form shown in Figs. 1 to 41, the thread guide wire 1 is slidably mounted within apertures in the opposite sides or flanges of a channel-sectioned holder 2 adapted to be secured within the interior of the lappet casing 3, a suitable packing bar 4: being placed beneath the wire, which may be flattened at top and bottom and the apertures in the holder made of a corresponding shape, so as to prevent rotation of the wire. The wire 1 is formed along one side with a worm rack 5 engaged by a worm 6 arranged parallel to the wire and having reduced ends 7 embraced by C- spring extensions 8, 8, of a sheet-metal plate 9 which passes over the wire 1 and is cranked or bent down so as to engage the outer edge of the latter, and formed into an attachment flange or wing 10 adapted to be secured to the base of the channel-sectioned holder 2, the action of the spring upon the worm giving the desired stiff movement.
The worm 6 is of hollow or tubular form, and is formed interiorly with a middle part 11 of square or other non-circular section adapted to receive the correspondingly shaped end of a detachable key 12 arranged to be introduced through an opening in the front end of the body or casing of the lappet. By means of the key the worm may be rotated and the thread guide wire propelled or repelled to give the desired adjustment, the spring clips 8 serving to retain the said wire in such adjusted position.
In the modification represented in Figs. 5 and 6, the worm 6 is held in engagement with the thread guide-wire 1 by means of a spring sheet-metal housing or clip device 9 whose opposite ends are fashioned into C- shapod clip members 8, 8, which embrace the thread-guide 1 and also the reducedends 7 of the worm, so as to hold the worm' and wire tightly together. These C-shaped clips are integral with the middle'portion of the housing, which is bent or fashioned into lateral wings or ears 10 adapted to seat themselves against the face of theholder 2 and to be secured thereto by rivets.
In the form shown in Figs. 7 and 8, the C- clips 8, 8, which embrace the reduced ends of the worm 6, are carried by an attachment plate 10 riveted to a block 13 which is recessed to receive the guide wire 1,the springs 8 tending to press the worm against the said wire.
According to the construction indicated in Figs. 9and 10, the worm 6 is pressed against the, guide wire 1 by the raised portions 8 upon opposite sides of an opening (through wh th W projects) in a spring sheetmetal plate 9 which is bent around the guidewire 1 and the opposite ends 10 riveted to the holder 2.
In the modification represented in Fig. 11, the worm 6 is mounted within a recess or housing in a block 13, and the thread-Wire 1 is arranged within an adj aeent recess or housing opening into the worm housing, so that theworm engages with the said threadwire. The worm is held in its adjusted position by the frictional resistance offered by a blade spring 8 pressing upon its periphery,
said springbeing locatedin a recess let-upon the opposite side of the worm to the threadwire. The worm is retained within the housing by the screwed-on plate 15.
In the turthertorm shown in Figs. 12 and 13, the worm 6 is pressed against the guidewire 1 by means of two spring clips 8, 8, secured to the holder 2, one bearing upon the periphery of the worm and the other bearing upon the guide-wire 1 through the medium of the packing piece 16. 7
Having fully described my invention, whatI desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is r o '1. In thread-guide lappets for spinning, twisting, doubling and like frames the combination with a thread guide wire formed with a worm rack engaged by a rotatable worm by which the guide wire can be adjusted longitudinally, of a. spring which exerts a lateral pressure upon the worm in bination witha casing, of a threadguide wire formed with a worm rack, a worm engagmg the rack, and spring-clip ClGVlPQS within which the Worm is mounted, said.

In thread-guide lappets for spinning. twisting, doubling and like frames, the com bination with a casing", of a thread-guide wire formed with a worm rack, a WOI'ITI engaging the rack, and a sheet-metal plate secured within the casing, said plate carrying spring clips which engage the worm so as to press the said worm and the guidewire tightly together.
