Description

May 16, 1939. K. MERKEL YARN REWINDING SET Filed Jan. 18, 1958 ATTO RN EY ill) Patented May 16, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQ...
2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in the re-winding sets for the yarn used in knitting machines in mills or the like plants, and it is' the principal object of my invention to provide a yarn re-winding set, which is less expensive and more economical than the known types of such re-winding sets, and moreover is easier and more convenient to install, in larger as well as smaller plants.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a yarn re-winding set for knitting machines equipped with a novel and improved adjustable spring guide for the yarn.
It is a fact, well known in the textile industry, that yarn or thread which has been re-wound is better qualified to produce a knitted fabric having a decidedly more uniform mesh work than yarn which has been wound or spooled once only. It is also true that twice wound yarn lessens considerably the loss of yarn experienced in mills using yarn which has been wound or spooled once only.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a re-winding set for knitting mills or the like the yarn guide of which cannot become clogged by the accumulation of dust or wax etc. and which positively prevents a lateral or upwardly or downwardly directed displacement of the yarn.
A still further object of my invention is the provision of a re-winding set of the character above described which positively prevents a loosening of the spools during rewinding and consequent cross-entanglement of the yarn beneath the spool.
Still another object of my invention is the provision of a re-winding set for yarn which allows the regulation and adjustment of the yarn tension instantaneously in a simple manner, while '1 the device altho of simple construction is durable constructed according to my invention with the yarn spool'in alignment therewith.
Fig. 2 shows the standard and yarn carrier for rewinding, in relation to the set.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the re-winding set, partly in section.
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
As illustrated in Figure 1 to 4, the re-winding set according to my invention is adapted to be readily suspended by means of the hooks II], II from any supporting member l2 of a re-winding machine commonly used in knitting mills or the like plants.
The standard l3 carries as usual the yarn spool I4 onto which the yarn I5 has been previously spocled, and which is arranged directly beneath the re-winding set, generally designated IE5, and in alignment therewith, and to which the hooks I ii, ll are suitably attached eventually by the intermediary of a block IT.
The yarn or thread [5 is guided through an opening H3 in the lower angular arm of the set and between said arm and a leaf spring l9 attached to the face of said arm, to an intermediary angular arm 20 of the set l6 and between the same and a spring plate 2|.
:30 A substantially loop-shaped bent leaf spring 122 has a lower small foot plate 23 pressing against or engaging the inner end of plate 2|, while its upper end is held engaged, as at 24, in a recess or slit of the set l6. A screw 25 is engaged in the inner end of the arm 20 and is passed through the spring 22, while its upper outer end, carries an adjusting knob 26.
The yarn I5 is rewound upon the spool carrier 21 on standard 28.
In operation, the clockwise rotation of screw 25 will produce the desired tension by engaging the foot 23 of the spring 22 more or less with the plate 2|. At a very loose tension the foot will engage the plate 2| with its outermost end only while with increased tension the foot will rest flat on said plate. Dust from the yarn or wool or wax cannot accumulate and prevent a perfect working of the rewinding set as it is open on all sides. movement of the yarn or displacement thereof is positively prevented by guiding the yarn through the space between spring l9 and the lower arm, and by plate 2|. The spring 22 is safely held in the recess of the set I6 and its tension is regulated by the operation of the screw by means of its knob to any desired degree, while the spring holds plate 2| the rear end of which is anchored in a recess 33 of the arm 20. The re-winding of the yarn can readily be effected by means of the spool carrier in its standard 28.
It will be understood that I have described and shown the preferred forms of my invention as examples only of the many possible ways to A lateral and up and down a) practically construct the same, and that I may 55 make such changes in the construction of the minor details of my invention and the general arrangement of the same as come within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the spirit of my invention and the principles involved.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a yarn re-winding set as described, a bracket to be suspended from a machine part and having a median arm extending laterally from said bracket, a spring plate upon said arm anchored with its inner end in a recess of said arm and engaging the yarn guided between said plate and the arm, a substantially loop-shaped leaf spring having a flat foot part engaging said spring plate, said leaf spring anchored at one end in a recess of the bracket, and an adjusting screw having an operating knob to regulate the degree of pressure exerted by said foot part on the plate according to the engagement of said leaf spring with a major or minor part of said plate to regulate the degree of yarn tension.
2. In a yarn re-winding set as described, a bracket for suspension from a support, yarn guides on said bracket for guiding the yarn from its spool to a re-winding spool, means to tension said yarn during its passage from one spool to the other, said means comprising a substantially loop-shaped leaf spring anchored at one end in said bracket and engaging with its other, flattened end one of said yarn guides, and a screw passed through one branch of said leaf spring and engaged in said bracket to regulate the degree of engagement between said flattened spring end with the yarn guide and the tension of the yarn accordingly.
