. Be it known that I, JosErH M. DE VITO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Torrance, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in CreelFrames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates generally to the art of spinning, and more particularly to a creel frame for supporting roving carrying bobbins, the principal object of my invention being to provide relatively simple and effi cient means for holding, in proper position, the bobbins that are wound with roving, and which latter it will be understood is carried into intermediate, speeder, or jack flyframes.
further object of my invention is to provide a roving bobbin support that will conveniently hold two bobbins, one in feeding position and the other in reserve position, and said support being constructed so as to permit the bobbins to be easily and quickly manipulated when it becomes necessary to shift the positions of said bobbins or to move the one from which the roving is being unwound into an out of service position, and to move the other bobbin, or the one that is fully wound with roving, into feeding position.
It will be understood that when the roving has been unwound from a bobbin it is necessary to quickly place a new or fully wound bobbin into feeding position, and to quickly unite the ends of the two strands of roving, and it is the purpose of my invention to provide bobbin holding means that will enable an operator or machine attendant to quickly shift the positions of the bobbin and make the connection between the adjacent ends of the roving, thereby preserving the continuity of the latter as it passes into the intermediate, Speeder, or jack flyframes.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in 1 view, my invention consists in certain new and novel features of construction and ar rangement of parts that will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top lan view of a portion of a creel frame and s owing a pair of bobbin supporting members of my improved con struction applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken approximately on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and showing one of the bobbins supporting pins or posts in position on the base portion of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the base member of my improved bobbin holder.
Fig. i is an enlarged vertical section taken approximately on the line 44 of Fig, 2.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a practical embodiment of my invention, 10 designates one of the horizontally disposed bars of a creel frame and to which bar the base members of my improved bobbin holder are applied.
Each of these base members comprises a horizontally disposed substantially triangular base plate 11, and projecting outwardly from the apex of said plate is an ear or bracket 12 through which passes suitable fastening means such as bolts or screws and the latter being seated in bar 10.
Formed in each plate is a slot having divergin portions 13, the same being substantially equal in length, and the central portion of said slot, or the portion that is positioned adjacent to the apex of the plate provides a vertically disposed semi-circular bearing 14 for a part of the bobbin supporting member of the device.
This bobbin supporting member comprises a pin or post 15 having formed on its lower end a disk 16 and depending from the underside of this disk is an axially disposed pintle 17, the lower end of which is made conical in order to provide a point bearing 18. Disk 16 is disposed immediately above a disk 19 and the latter is provided with a depending pin or stud 20 that passes through slot 13. Formed through disk 19 and extending downwardly in said pin or stud 20 is an axially disposed aperture 21 that is occupied by pintle 17.
lVhen the parts are properly assembled. conical bearing point 18 rests on the bottom surface of recesses 21, thereby providing an anti-friction bearing which permits the pin or post 15 to rotate freely upon disk 19 and stud 20.
Depending from stud 20 is a threaded shank 22 and positioned thereupon beneath the plate 11 is a nut 23 and washer 24, the same serving to retain the bobbin support in proper position upon said base plate.
It will be understood that the diameter of pin or stud 20 is slightly less than the width of slot 13, and therefore said pin and the parts carried, thereby will slide freely throughout the length of said slot.
WVhen in service each plate 11 carries a 7 pair of the bobbin supporting members, and
a roving carrying bobbin A of ordinary form is positioned on each pin withthe base of the bobbin resting on disk 16. One of the bobbin holder devices is'disposed in the forward or apex end of thebase plate 11 with the pin or stud 2O resting in the bearing 14. This is the bobbin that is in service and the roving therefrom unwinds as it is drawn forwardly by the feed rollers B of the intermediate or speeder fly-frame.
The other bobbin carrying member of the pair associated with each base plate is located at the rear end of one of the portions 13 of the slot as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and just prior to the time that the end of the roving is unwound from the bobbin that is in feeding position said end is pulled from the empty bobbin and the end of the roving from the reserve bobbin is connected to the first mentioned end of the roving by a twisting movement, and as a result this continuity of the roving is preserved as it is drawn into the intermediate or speeder fiy-frame.
Simultaneous withthe joining of the ad jacent ends of the two strands of roving, the pin or post 15 carrying the empty bobbin is shifted to'the end of that portion of the slot that is opposite to the portion that is occupied by the-fully wound bobbin and the latter is shifted to feeding position at the forward end of the base member 11 and with its stud or pin 20 engaging against bearing 14:.
The empty bobbin can noW be removed from the pin or post and a full bobbin positioned on' the latter, and thus the parts are made ready for a subsequent shifting position ofthe bobbin holders as above described.
A bobbin holder device of my improved construction is comparatively simple, may be easily and cheaply produced, and is very effective in performing itsintended function's. r

While the roving is being drawn into the intermediate or Speeder fly-frame, pin or post 15 rotates freely and with very little friction between the disks 16'and 19, this result being accomplished by forming the point bearing 18 so that there isvery little, if any, mechanical contact between the under surface of disk 16 and the upper surface of disk 19. r V
By the use of my improved device it is unnecessary for an operator or machine attendant to resort to the usual practice of stripping the bobbin, and which action it will be understood, involves the use of a knife in cutting the last one or two layers of roving from the bobbin, and results in a certain amount of waste of roving.
'It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved creel frame and roving bobbin support may be made and substituted for thoseherein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A creel frame bobbin support comprising a support for two bobbins, one in operative position for unwinding. and the other in reserve position, and said support being provided with a divergent path for permitting the empty bobbin to be moved out of the way while the full bobbin is being moved into operative position. r I
2. In a creel frame bobbin holder, a support provided with a slot having diverging portions, a pair of bobbin holding members arranged for "sliding movement upon said support and guided in their movements by said slot, and a portion of each bobbin holdingmember being rotatably mounted.
In a creelframe bobbin holder, a support provided with a slot having diverging portions that are. substantially equal in 1ength,a pair of members arranged for movement upon said support, which men V bers have portions extending into said slot there being a bearing formed between the diverging portions of the slot, which bearing is adapted to receive the parts of the supported members that project into said slot, and a bobbin supporting member removably positioned on each sliding member.

In a creel frame bobbin holder, a support providedwith a slot having diverging portions that are substantially ;equal in length, a pair of members arranged for movement upon'said support, which members have portions extending into said slot, there being a bearing formed between the diverg-' ing portions of the slot, which bearing is adaptedwto receive the parts of the supported members that project into said slot, and a bobbin holding member rotatably arranged on each sliding member.
' 5. In a bobbin holding creel frame, a base, a pair of members arranged for sliding movement thereon, a rotatory bobbin holding member carried by each sliding :member and said members being mounted on said base so as to permit. one member and the bobbin carried thereby to be moved out of operative position while the other bobbin carrying member is moved into operative position.
6. In a creel frame bobbin holder, a base provided with an angular guide way, a pair of members arranged for sliding movement on said base and through said guide way, there being a bearing for a part of each sliding member at the apex of said guideway, and a bobbin holding member carried by each sliding member.
7. In a creel frame bobbin holder, a base provided with an angular guide way, a pair of members arranged for sliding movement on said base and through said guide way, there being a bearing for a part of each sliding member at the apex of said guide way, and a bobbin holding member rotatably carried by each sliding member.
8. In a creel frame bobbin holder, a slotted base, a pair of members arranged for sliding movement upon said slotted base, a post carried by each sliding member, and a point bearing between said sliding member and post.
9. In a creel frame, a support, a pair of bobbin holders arranged for movement upon said support and adapted to be shifted into and out of a position of service, and said support being provided with a bearing which receives a part of each bobbin holder while the same is in a position of service.
10. In a creel frame, the combination with a support having a bobbin carrier guide way and the latter being provided at a point intermediate its ends with a bearing adapted to be occupied by a part of a bobbin carrier while the bobbin thereof is in a position of service, of a pair of bobbin carriers mounted on said support and having parts that are adapted to traverse said guide way and to occupy the bearing therein.
