Description

N. KOYOMJI'AN.
H AT Exmgoen. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 22,1920.
1,391,123; 4 I PatentedSept. 20,1921
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
mwrna KOYOMJ'IAN, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
mr-Ex'rmmm I To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, NEUFER KOYOMJIAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Extenders, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of-the present invention isthe provision of a simple and inexpensive device that is light in weight and readily worn within a hat for retaining the shape or form of the hat with the crown suitably extended ready for wear.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a shaper for such hats as soft felt and straw l ats'whereby'the desired indentations or grooves are maintained in the crown thereof, uniformly in shape and of the desired dimensions, the device being suitably anchored in its operative-position.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the I invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings forming-a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional View through a hat provided with my invention,
.Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view therer of with the securing means omitted,
Fig. 3 is a developed view of the device of the form shown in Fig. 1, with one of the arms broken away and Fig. 4 is a similar view of a central portion of a slightly modified form of the device.
Referring more in -detail to the drawing,
my invention broadly consists of a frame 10 as shown in Fig. 3, or 10' in Fig. 4, formed by cutting or stamping the same out of sheetv material such as thin metal or celluloid and -readily bent for positioning within a'. hat
such as the soft felt hat 11 shown in Figs. 1
- and 2 and whereby the crown 12 is maintained in its desired form and shape.
The frame 10 includes a central oval 13 with legs 14 projecting from its opposite ends while substantially semicircular; portions 15 laterally of the oval 13 have'oppo- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 20 1921. Application filed September 22, 1920. Serial No. 412,074.
sitely projecting legs 16, the frame 10 having a chain of cruciform appearance when sweat-band 19 of the hat 11 holding theframe in position for use as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The side creases or depres- 810118 20 of the crown 12 are bent inwardly of the semi-circular portions 15 of the frame- 10 and the resiliency of the frame maintains the outline of the creases17- and 20 uniform with the curved side portions of the crown 12 properly extended or arched by means of the legs 14' and 16.
Perforations 21 are provided through the feet 18 adapted to recelve stitching 22 passing through the side of the rim 12 when it is desired to more firmly sec re the frame 10 in position within the hat as best illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing, it being noted that the stitching 22 is omitted in the showing of the device in Fig. 2 where the sweat-band 19 frame 10 within the crown 12. The modified formof frame 10 illustrated in Fig. 4 is substantially the same as shown in Fig. 3 with theside portions of the oval13' omitted at central points adjacent the semi-circular side portions 15', the legs 14 projecting from the ends of the oval 10' and legs 16' projecting fromthe portions 15. The operation of my invention will be full understood from this detailed description t ereof it being seen that the frame 10 formed of such material as celluloid or aluminum may be easil and quickly inserted within the crown 12 o a hat of any soft or flimsy material and that the shape thereof will be normally maintained I with longitudinal and lateral creases of pre- 7 determined dimensions.
While the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is'believed to'be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nev- Having thus described my invention, what v I claim as new and desire to secure by Let points between the sweat-band and crown of 10 ters Patent is the hat, anchoring feet transversely posi- A 7 An extender for hats comprising a frame tioned at the free ends, of the legs and semiof sheet material adapted for use within the circular portions connecting the laterally-po- 5 crown of the hat and having a central oval sitioned legs with the sides of the oval portion within which the centrally creased adapted for receiving theside creases of the 15 portion of the crown depends when the dehat crown. vice is in use, with said legs flatly contacting In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. the interior of the crown and terminating at NEUFER KOYOMJ IAN.
