SEAM-RIIPPING TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 13, 192] Application filed December 2, 1919. Serial No. 341,913.
and has for its object the provision of a tool by means of which seams may be quickly and easily ripped.
An important object is the provision of a tool of this character which is formed from a single piece of steel bent to provide a handle portion and having a sharpened edge for effecting the cutting. I a
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, theinvention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the tool,
Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown the device as formed from a sheet of metal 15, preferably steel, which may be nickel lated or otherwise coated, if found desirab e. At one edge the sheet 13 is bent upon itself, as shown at 16, and then rebent, as shown at 17, to provide a head 18 which is elongated in cross section, as clearly shown. One side of this bead is formed convex and is adapted to engagement by the operators fingers while the opposite side is formed concave and adapted for engagement by the users thumb. The
may be used for severing threads to effect ri ing of seams.
rom the foregoing description and a study of the drawings it will be apparent that I have thus provided a very simple and inexpensive tool which may be very easily operated and which will be very efficient in performing the function for which it is intended.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A .device of the character described comprising a sheet of resilient metal bent upon itself intermediate its ends and rebent to form a bead constituting a handle engageable by the fingers, said head bein elongated in cross section with one side formed convex for engagement by the fingers and the opposite slde formed concave for engagement by the thumb, and the opposite edge of the sheet being hardened and sharpened to form a cutting edge.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MAYNARD J. BLAIR.
