PATENT OFFICE.
ASTRID-S. ROSING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GARMENT-RIPPING- TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1907.
Application filed December 6, 1906. Serial No- 346.595.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, As'rRID S. RosINe, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Ripping Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel construction in a tool particularly adapted for use by tailors and seamstresses for ripping garments and removing basting threads, the object being to provide a simple and efficient device of this character and consists in the features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention: Figure l is a perspective view of a tool constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail transverse section of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
My invention comprises a flat relatively long strip A of steel one end of which is cut away to provide a hook B, the end of which is tapered and terminates in a small point C which, however, "is not sharp. At its other end said strip A terminates in a sharp beveled edge D disposed at an incline to the side edges of said strip A, one of said side edges being cut away to form a concave recess Ewhich at one end meets the outermost end of said inclined edge D, the wall of said recess being beveled and sharp. The meeting point of said beveled inclined edge D and the wall of the recess E forms a sharp pointed projection which is readily inserted in a seam to engage and cut the threads and thus enable the garment to be ripped. The hook B serves to enable threads to be caught up and pulled out or otherwise removed from the garment, and is particularly adapted for the removal of basting threads, the point thereof being dulled so that the same will not readily catch threads of the fabric.
My said device is very light and in use is handled in substantially the same manner as a pencil. Either the beveled edge D or the wall of the recess E may be used as the cutting edge according to the character of the work to be done.
I claim as my invention:
1. A garment ripping tool comprising a flat bar of metal terminating at one end in a knife-edge disposed at an incline to the side edges thereof, one of said side edges be ing provided with a concave recess having a knife-edge wall terminating at one end in the projecting end of said first-named knife-edge.
2. A garment ripping tool comprising a flat bar of metal terminating at one end in a knife-edge disposed at an incline to the side edges thereof, one of said side edges being provided with a concave recess having a knife-edge Wall terminating at one end in the projecting end of said firstnamed knife-edge and a hook at the other end 01 said bar terminating in a dull point.
In testimony whereof I have signed my ence of two subscribing witnesses.
