UNITEDv STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMA L. LARRABEE, or WEST PALMBEACH, FLORIDA.
VINFANr-BINDER.
, T all whom it may concern Be it known that LEMMA L. LARRABEE, a
citizen of the United States, residing \at Test Palin Beach, in the county of .Palm Beach and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Infant-Binders, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new. and useful improvements in infant binders and it has for its objects among others to provide a simple, improved, and eiiicient onepiece binder, adjustable for shorter or taller,
-or for larger or smaller infants.'-
spreads over the shoulders it iskept from rolling and being uncomfortable over the stomach, the band passing through the slot raises it just enough .to make thel proper curve so that it 'will fit under the stomach and will not move'up. It is much easier for inexperienced mothers to use as it is secured over the shoulder so that it` cannot slip around or drop downvand will at all times sta right where it is affixed.
ther objects and advantages of theI invent-ion will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention, in its preferred form, is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with-the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective viewl showing the application of the binder.
Fig. 2 is a rear view. i
Fig. 3 is a view of the piece of material constituting the binder.
- Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line ,l1-4 of Fig. 2. l
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the different views.
Referring to the drawing,
1 designates lthe garment or binder as a whole before it is applied. It is made of Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 30, 1921, A Application ,filed September 1, 1920. Serial No. 407,355.
a suitablefabric, such as cotton cloth 'or llnen cut to the shade shown in Fig. 3, hav- `ing its edges provided with ahem or binding 2, as found most expedient, the body -portion 3 being formed with oppositely extended bands or strap portions 4 and 5, as f shown in Fig. 3, one at each end, and at a polnt nearer to one end of the body portion than' the other with a vertical slot 6 which.'
may be provided with a hem or binding 7, as indicated in Fig. 3.
The top edge of the body portion 3 is provided withjtwo/pairs of extensions 8 and 9 and 10 and 11, which are likewise provided with a binding or hem, as shown at 12. This constitutes the binder. When it is applied as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, it constitutes what may be termed a shirt portion and a bandage, it being understood, however, that such shirt portion and bandage are all integral, Ibeing-in one and the same piece, and
in its application there are no buttons or butj ton-holes employed.
The mode of application will be evident from the drawing'.V The binder is placed around the bodyof the infant, the extensions 8, 9, and 10, 11, extended over the. I
shouldersv and overlapped and united by means of'safety-pins or the like 13. The body portion 3 is Aoverlapped at the back, as vseen in Fig. 2,. andthe overlapped por tions at the neckl united by a safety-pin or the like 14, as seen in Fig. 2. The flap portion 4 is passed through the slot 6 and the flap portion 5 islapped thereover, as seen in Fig. 1,v and the overlapped portions secured by Fig. 1. T
It will thus be seen that the device is readily adjustable; there are no .buttons to annoy the infant and the binder can be quicklyand easily applied, and as readily removed. The recesses 17 and 18 between the eXtensions 8 and ,9 and l0 and `11 form the armvh oles and the space 19 between. the extensions 9 and `10 forms the front of the neck portion when the' binder is applied.
Modifications in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacriicing any of its advanta es.
at is claimed as new is 1. An infant binder -formed of a single piece ofunstiifened material comprisin a body portion with a transverse slit and a j ap at each endl forming extensions of the body safety-pins 15 and 16, as seen in portion at the. bottom, one of Asaid flaps adapted to pass through the slit when the binder is applied, the upper edge of the body portion being formed with extensions in pairs adapted to overlap over the shoulder of the infant, said flaps being adapted to pass around the body of an infant ,one over the other. A
- 2. An infant binder formed of a' single integral pieceof material with one side edge substantially straight throughout its length,
bands, the opposite e ge being formed with two pairs of extensions adapted tov overlap over the shoulders of the infant, said edge 15 being formed between said extensions with a space forming the front of the neck portion, Vthere being a transverse slot in the body portion to receive one of said bands.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature. 20
