To all whom rit may concern.-
Beit known that I, GEORGE S. COOPER, of Ba-raboo, in the county of Sauk and Stat-e of Wisconsin, have invented an Improved Holder for Umbrellas and other1 Shades Used on Wagons and other Vehicles, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in a holder composed of a base, to be secured to a wagon-seat or other support, and an upright socket having within it a horizontal groove or slot, and a vertical internal groove leading thereto from the mouth of the socket.
The handle of the umbrella to be used with this holder .is furnished with a transverselyprojecting pin, and when inserted into this socket, and properly manipulated, the umbrella will be very securely held therein, but may be readily detached, when desirable.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of a holder constructed according to my invention, showing an umbrella held by it. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A is the base of the? holder, consisting of two crossed feet secured to the wagon-seat or other support by screws or other suitable means. From the middle of the base, at the junction of the aforesaid arms, there extends a cylindrical socket, B, having in it near the mouth a horizontal slot, a, and also a vertical` groove, c, which extends from the latter to the mouth of the socket. C is an umbrella, whose handle is furnished at a short distance from the end with a transversely-projecting pin, e.
To secure the umbrella within the holder, its handle is first turned so that the pin c will come opposite the vertical groove c in the site the groove c, and then it may be pulledl right out. l
This holder is applicable to all shades used on open wagons and similar vehicles.
If desirable, two or more umbrellas may be arranged on the same vehicle, so that their edges shall be contiguous, and curtains may be depended from their side edges to prevent light or rain from penetrating to the vehicle from the sides.
Claim.
The holder, composed of a base, A, and an upright socket, B, provided internally with a horizontal groove or slot, a, and a vertical groove, c, leading to it from the mouth of the socket, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
