IMPROVEMENT IN SOFA-BEDSTEADS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,819, dated May 13, 18.73 application filed January 31, 1873. i

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES Rossow, of the city of Chicago, county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding-Lounges 5 and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of the lounge closed or folded 5 Fig. 2, a view of the lounge opened, to be used as a bed 5 Fig. 3, a detailed view of the pillow, with attachments for securing its position when in use, and otherwise; Fig. 4, a front elevation of the end of the lounge opened, showing the improvement in securing the legs in a closed position.

Fig. l shows, at B B, the pillow stowed away beneath the elevated portion of the lounge m. This is done by slipping the wire pins zo w, Visible in Fig. 3, into two corresponding openings at the bottom of and on the exterior of the elevation m.

Fig. 2 shows the lounge opened, the pillow B fastened with the hook O to the lounge on the top, while the pins w w are inserted into corresponding openings in the lounge, while the jointed brace a a, dropping on thepin gives stability to the pillow.

Fig. 2 shows, at d d, the sheet-iron legs in use, supportingthe opened partT of thelounge, which, when closed, is the top or seat of the lounge,as shown in Fig. l. f f are the springs, holding the legs d in position to prevent movements sidewise, as is the case in ordinary lounges. g is a loop for lifting up the top T.

Fig. 3 shows the pillow- B, the pins w and hook G for fastening the same in position, as also the jointed brace a a for keeping the pillow in position.

Fig. 4 shows the legs d when not in use, held up by the springs f, as also the recess E, into which they drop, and in which they are held firmly by the springsf when in use.

What I claim as of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In combination with the stationary headm and hinged part T, the detachable pillow B, the jointed brace a a, the pins w w, and hook C, arranged in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
