My present invention has reference to box blanks primarily intended as containers for candy and the like and its object is to provide improved means for holding the parts firmly in position to prevent collapsing, some of the parts, in addition to their utility, serving as appropriate ornamentation.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the partially assembled structure. Fig. 3 shows the box fully closed. 7
I have shown the bottom 1 having side flaps 2, 3, to be bent on lines 1. The cover '5 is part of flap 3, being bent on line 6. It-
has an edge lip'7. The side flaps 2, 3, have extension pieces 8, 9, respectively.
The bottom also has end flaps 10 scored at lines 12, 13, 142 to form sections 15, 16, 17. Section 17 is formed at one end with a tongue 18. Section 16 is cut through to form a flange 19 of any ornamental design. It is shown having a semi-circular undulating ed e to create a lace paper effect. 7
is illustrated the side flaps 2, 3 are. first bent up on lines 4. Their ends 8, 9 are then turned in to lie against each other on the line 12. Section 15 is next turned up against the outer face of parts 8, 9 and section 16 is bent down against their inner faces. This causes flange 19 to project substantially straight at right angles to the ends and toward the interior of the box. Section 17 lies upon the bottom 1 and its tongue 18 projects upward adjacent the inner face of flap'2.
When the cover 5 is folded over the novel features of my present improvement are brought into, action. The cover encounters the flange 19 whose upward tendency causes a spring action preventing the cover from sinking into the box. The edge lip 7 of the cover passes snugly between the tongues 18 and the side flap 2 so that the cover will not open accidentally. These tongues also maintain section 17 firmly in position on the bottom of the box and prevent their sliding. When the box cover is opened the formation of the flanges 19 gives the lace paper ornamental effect desirable in candy boxes.
7 I claim as my invention: v v
A box blank having a bottom, and side flaps formed with extension pieces, said bottom-having ends formed in three sections,
the inner and middle sections to be folded over said extension pieces and the outer section to lieon the bottom and formed with a In testimony whereof have signed this specification.
