neeaeee.
Application filed January To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HARRY S. Sti ton, a subject of the King of England, residing at McKeesport, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Tooth-Paste Tubes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form apart of this specification. 4 ,This invention relates to newand useful improvements in attachments for tooth paste or shaving cream tubes, the object of the invention being to provide a simple device which is thoroughly practical for extruding paste from paste holders, such as the ordinary collapsible tin tubes containing tooth paste or shaving cream.
The drawings clearly show by preferred form of the invention, and in which:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my device.
Fig. 2 is an end View hand end of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Fig. 4 is a detail View of looking at the left the hinge end Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view in perspective of the device.
Referring now in detail to the drawings:
1 designates a plate or bar which is bent at one end, as shown at 2. 3 designates a second plate or bar provided with a bent end 4 which is hinged, as shown at 5, to the end 2. The plate 3 'is bent at its opposite end, as shown at 6.
7 is an end plate of spring material suitably secured to the plate 1 and having a lateral transversely curved terminal 8, 8, said end plate and terminal being slotted at 9.
Rotatably journaled in the bent portion 2, and in the end plate 7, is a roller 10 which is milled on its periphery, as shown in the drawing. A second roller 11 is rotatably journaled in the ends 4 and 6 of the plate 3. Said rollers are provided at one end, exteriorly of the end plate 7 with interniesh'ing specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ring. 9, 31921. ieao. Serial He. states.
In operation, it will be seen that by rota-ting the twirler 13, the roller 10 will be rotated, and through the medium of the gears 12, 12 the other roller 11 will simultaneously benrotated, said rollers rotating in reverse directions.
The device may be quickly placed on the end of a tube by swinging the side plate 3 on its hinge 5 away from the rollers 10, disposing the tube end between the rollers10 and 11, and then swinging said side plate 3 so as to bring the rollers 10 and 11 in' juxtaposition, the bent terminal 6 of the side plate 3, contacting with the curved terminal 8 and flexing said end plate 7 outward, said plate thereupon springing back after the terminal ,6 passes by the curved terminal 8, thus causing the terminal 8 to bear against the outer surface of the plate 3, frictionally holding the same against accidental outward movement. A pin 3, carried by the terminal 6, rides in the slot 9, and limits inward move ment of the side plate 3.
The spring fingers 8, 8 yieldingly hold the plate 3 in closed position against opening movement on the hinge 5. ing the hand twirler 13 the material in the tube may be fed therefrom as desired, the tube being forced downward by the rollers 10 and lies the material is extruded from the open end of the tube.
What I claim to be new is: I
A device for feeding material from a tube comprising parallel bars having perpendicular offsets at their ends, the juxtaposed oil"- sets at one end being hinged together, a latch holding the bars separably united at their ends opposite the hinge, parallel milled rollers journaled in the ofisets, a knurled head connected with one ofthe rollers at the hinged end, and intermeshed gears carried by the rollers at the latch end adapted to be separated when the bars are unlatched.
In testimony whereof I hereunto atlix my signature.
HARRY STREET SLADE.
