citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Chittenden and State of Vermont,-have invented a new and useful Display-Card, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to display cards, one of its objects being to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character designed primarily to be placed upon a can which serves to support the card and from which the card cannot be removed. accidentally without the exertion of force sufficient to tear the card from the can.

A further object is to provide a card which, when positioned on a can or the like, will be supported in an upright position so that matter printed thereon can be readily seen.

A still further object is to provide a display card which, prior to being set up for use, can be kept perfectly flat so that large numbers of them can be shipped in compact bundles.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a sheet of suitable stiffmaterial, such as cardboard, and this strip is scored transversely, as indicated at 2, and 3 so as to provide the main portion 4 of the display card, a base 5 between the Specification of Letters Patent. In using the display card the same is placed with its printed face downward on the can or other article C the diameter of which is slightly greater than the distance between the arcuate walls of the opening 7. The portion 5 of the display card is then pressed downwardly so that these arcuate walls will snap under the bead or annular extension C at the top of the can or other container, leaving the straight parallel walls 10 of the extensions 8 above the container 0. The portion 4 is then bent along the score 2 so as to be in an upstanding position and extending over the can or other object C while the flap 6 is also bent upwardly along the score 3 so as to extend across the top of the can or other object C. As the end walls 9 diverge as described, it will be apparent that they will project outwardly past the bead or annular projection C. as indicated in Fig. 4. The flap 6 is bent so as to engage the back of the portion 4 and is attached thereto by means of the gummed tab 11 as shown in Fig. 3. It is to be understood, however, that if preferred other means than the tab 11 can be used for connecting the portions 4 and 6 together. With the parts thus assembled it will be noted that opposed portions of the base 5 will extend under the rib or annular extension C and the straight parallel walls 10 of the recesses 8 will rest on the top of the container or other article C. Thus the display card will be supported in an upright position where the matter thereon can be seen readily. The card will be held securely in position and cannot be detached except by exerting force.

I claim 1. A display card comprising a strip of cardboard or the like foldable along transverse lines to form an upstanding body portion, an intermediate base portion and an upstanding flap, there being an opening intersecting the base portion and having opposed Walls spaced apart a distance slightly less than the diameter of the article to be engaged by the card, there being extensions of the opening projecting into the body portion and the flap portion of the card and provided with diverging end Walls.
