Description

I R. PEREZ.
STAMP on SEAL.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. I2. 1920- Pahanted July 26, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STAMP OR SEAL.
proved Stamps or Seals, of which the following is a specfication.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a stamp or seal, and has for its principal object the provision of a combination of devices in such an apparatus, permitting the same to be changed .so that the central part may consist of a special and characteristic design, such as thumb-print, portrait, and the like, which may be readily removed and changed at will.
The value of a digital impression for Men tification is well known, and it is the general practice to produce the impression from the thumb or finger itself, but in order to utilize such an impression in combination with other devices to form a characteristic seal, it is inconvenient to make the impression directly, since it would be very diflicult to preserve always the same relative position between such impression and the other parts of the design, and to prevent the digital impression from impinging and partially obliterating the other parts of the impression of the stamp or seal.
1 accomplish the purposes of this invention by means of the hereinafter described combination of parts forming a complete stamp or seal, a preferred form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view seen from above; Fig. 2 a vertical section of the main part or body of the apparatus showing the central movable carrier advanced to the proper position for removing and changing the digital impression stamp or other similar part; Fig. 3 is a vertical section of said removable part; Fig. 4 is a reversed view of the central stamp-holder; Fig. 5 a plan view of the face of the same; and Fig. 6 a vertical section of the same; Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the complete apparatus; Figs. 8, 9, 10 and 11 are details hereinafter explained; Fig. 12 a plan or base view of the complete apparatus; and Fig. 13 a view of the body of the apparatus with the central carrier for the removable device placed on a level with the printing surface of the stamp, ready to make impressions.
'As will be seen from the said drawings,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 26-, 1921.
Application filed March 12, 1920. Serial No. 365,304.
the apparatus consists of a handle, a, whereon is screwed or otherwise suitably mounted the head orprincipal part of the apparatus, (Figs. 2 and 13) comprising a spring controlled part or removable design carrier- Z) mounted in a circular seat of the frame 0 and having its shank surrounded by a spiral spring which normally acts to cause the carrier Z) to emerge from its seating and take the position shown in Fig. 2, whereas by pressure on the face of the movable part Z) it will be'moved to the position shown in Fig. 13, where it is retained by a catch lever d in combination with adjusting screw 6. The face of the carrier Z) is provided with a suitable dove-tail slot wherein may be introduced the correspondingly formed slide 9 (Fig. 3) on the surface of which is engraved the digital impression or other design forming the changeable part ofthe stamp or seal.
The main body or head-frame e is provided with an outer annular part it whereon is engraved the permanent-or stationary part of the stamp or seal design; with the setscrew Z which holds the latter firmly in place when in the operative position; and with the ilitel'lOl thread is for fastening to the hand e a.
Operation? Grasping the stamp by the handle a with the left hand so that the thumb rests on the catch (Z and with the stamp in vertical position, base upward and the set screw Z toward the right; loosen the latter allowing the sliding carrier Z) to protrude under the influence of the spring f; place the slide 9 containing the removable design in the dove-tail slot of the carrier 6 press down the catch (Z and press the carrier 2) into its place in annular part h and tighten the setscrew Z then place the stamp face downward on a smooth surface, such as a glass, table, or the like, and again releasing the set-screw Z, the spring f will cause the printing surface of the slide 9 to" be exactly leveled with the stationary printing ring it, where it may then be finally secured by means of the set-screw Z, the stamp being now ready for use. I
It is contemplated by the inventor that the removable slide 9 containing the thumbrint or other individual characteristic is to be retained'in the possession of its owner,
I for which purpose a small pocket case may be like ma make use of a common stain J or 7 1 seal, addlng thereto lllS individual characteristic 1m )l'QSSlOIl consistin of a di ital 11n- I 1 b s o prcssion, portrait, or any other design which he may prefer; although the main idea of the seal is to permit the use of a thumb-print in combination with a seal, and as such a use is novel according to the information and belief of the inventor, it is herein especially claimed regardless of the form of construction used, which as given in the drawing is by way of example solely.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States of America, is:
1.' In a stamp or seal, the combination of a printing surface composed of a permanent or stationary part and a removable or changeable part, means for removing or changing the said removable or changeable part, means for holding in operative position thesaid movable part, and means consisting of a sliding carrier whereby the changeable part may be protruded above the level of the permanent orinting surface part and the changeable part removed or introduced in said carrier.
2. In a stamp or seal the combination of a printing surface comprising an'outer annular permanent part, and an inner circular removable part, means for removing or changing the said removable or changeable part, means for holding inoperative position the said movable part, and means consisting of a sliding carrier whereby the changeable inner circular part may be protruded above the. level of the outer fixed annular part and the changeable part removed I 4. A stamp or seal comprising the combiprinting design, substantially asdenation of a head or principal part provided with an outer annular stationary printing surface, a printing design engraved on said surface, a sliding device disposed to move reciprocally in the central part of the said head and having its outer surface slotted wherein to place a removable slide or disk, a printing design consisting of a thumb or digital print on the surface of said slide or disk, said slide or disk being removable when protruded above the level of thesaid stationary printing design, substantially as described.
Signed at Buenos Aires, Argentina,'this sixth day of February, A. D. 1920.
