Description

H. GROSSKOPP. HANDSTAMP.
N0. 108,351. Patented 001:. 18, 1870.
UNITED ST TES PATENT OFFICE.
IM PROVEM ENT IN H AND -STA'M PS,
Specification forming part of Letters I aient No. 108,35], dated October 18, 1870.
;ing' drawings, making part of this specification, in which-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device,
illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corrcsponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists in mounting the body, or die, or type-holder head of a hand-stamp on elastic feet which properly elevate the type or marking device above the surface to be printed, and after the impression is made re-.
turn the marking device to its normal position.
In the drawings, A represents a stock or body of a hand stamp having an ordinary striking-head. To this body is secured the die-head or type-holder B, which is of usual form and construction for holding the ,die or type, or both, from which the impression is made. The holder Bis sufficiently elevated above the surface to be marked orprinted by means of feet or pedestalsO, which in the present case are of curved form, and secured to the stock A above the holder B. These feet are constructed of spring met-a1, or material having sufficient elasticity to support the I stamp and likewise yield when the stock is depressed. It will be seen that when a blow is given or power applied to the stock the feet will yield, and thereby permit the marking device to come in contact with the article to be marked or printed, and thus the impression is made. \Vhen the hand is released from the stock, the type-holder; is immediately raised, owing to the elasticity of the feet, and the marking device thus restored to itsnormal posit-ion, ready for the next impression. It is evident that the'feet or pedestals can be secured directly to the holder B. The stock A is thereby rendered unnecessary; but it is advisable to apply a handle to said holder for convenience of operation.
The feet or pedestals may be made of a singlepiece of metal, or of separate pieces, and
be riveted or secured to the holder B, the
stock A, or the handle thereof, as most desired or convenient. The pedestals may likewise be made of rubber, and the operation will be in a manner similar to those heretofore described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new; and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The elastic leg 0, supporting the stamp and forming the spring therefor, substantially as and for the purpose described. 1
To the above I have signed my name this 19th day of July, 1870..
