To cZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Arman Sims, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Toilet-Article Packages, of which the ,following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improvement in toilet article packages, one oblG ject being to provide a package which will not only be attractive in appearance but which-will also protect the article inclosed and permit inspection thereof without exposing it.
One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the drawings accompanying the present specification and in wh1ch- Figure l is a front elevation, and
i Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical section.
Referring to the drawings, an article to be carried in the package such as a powder puff l orother toilet accessory is inclosed 1n an envelop made of transparent paper or other suitable material having an opening at one end to ermit the insertion and removal of the artic e, said opening being closed by a I flap-2 which may be secured in closed position by an application of mucilage or other adhesive material, or may be closed by 6 means of a. superposed sticker overlapping both the flap 2 and the rear wall of the envelop. The front wall of the transparent envelop is provided with an opening 3 and an insert 4 bearing printed or pictorial mat- 85 ter is positioned inside the envelopbetween said opening 3 and the toilet article 1 in such a manner that a portion of the printed or pictorial matter on the insert is visible directly through the opening 3 while the re 40 mainder of the printed or pictorial matter is visible through that portion of the transparent wall which surrounds the openin 3.
Thus, from the foregoing description ta en in connection with the drawings, it appears that a package embodying my invention provides a receptacle which permits inspection of the article through the transparent rear wall and which is also attractive in appearance, presenting a unique. pictorial eii'ect by reason of the framing of a portion of the printed or pictorial matter without sacrificing the efiectiveness' oi the-package as a protective covering. tageresiding in the construction hereinabove describedis that the package may be varied in appearance by varying the pictorial or printed portions of the insert either in subject matter or in color or in both.
This invention has successfully solved a attractively colored inscription or picture.
Under these circumstances, the edge of the hole in the front wall of the envelop may serve as a frame for a small color print conveniently appearing'on a card insert While the wall surrounding the hole permits the rest of the printed or pictorial matter to be seen, but in a different tone. Furthermore, where the insert is of relatively greater stiffness than the material of the envelop, its corners will project into the envelop corners and prevent the same from collapsing or losing their rectangular contour. This package has found great favor in the trade and is looked upon as a valuable contribution thereto and as a solution of a difi'icult selling problem. a
I claim as my invention: A toilet article package comprising ,in
combination a powder pufl, a transparent envelop inclosing said pufi and through one wall of which the powder puff may be in spected, the other wall of said envelop having ahole of any desired shape, and a printed or pictorially ornamented insert inter posed between the hole and the-powder put? to protect the puff, to maintain the envelop in substantially extended form, and to present through the hole an unobstructed view, of printed or pictorial matter on its ex posed surface.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 31st day of March 1921. ABNER S IRIS.
