by a push button positioned upon the outer side of the door with-means attached to the door knob and associated with the mecha- V nism of the bell for ringing the same upon the turning of the door knob.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combined door bell and burglar alarm wherein the bell and its spring motor v operating mechanism'are positioned upon the inner face of the door with a link arm ere tending between the spindle of the door knob and the motor mechanism for releasing the mechanism to sound the bell upon the turn ing of the door knob.
lVith the above and other objects in view. the present invention consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and in which like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings,

Briefly described. the invention aims to provide a combined door bell and burglar alarm wherein a bell embodying a spring motor is carried by the inner face of a door. the gearing operated by the spring motor including an escapement wheel normally maintained in a stationary condition by a shiftable slide. A push button operable from the outer side of the door is engagablo with said slide for shifting the same to release the motor mechanism for sounding the bell. A connecting link is positioned upon the inner side of the door and is attached to the control slide and knob spindle to effect movement of the spindle upon the turning of the door knob to indicate tampering with the door lock mechanism.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings, and particularly to Figs. 1 and 3. there is illustrated the door 1 provided with the usual latch mechanism enibodying a spindle :2 while a door hell 3 is positioned upon the inner side of the door. A link 4 connects the knob spindle 2 with the operating mechanism of the bell 3 to sound the bell upon the turning of the knob while a push button 5 positioned upon the outer side of the door extends therethrough for cooperation with the bell mechanism to release the same in the ordinary manner.
he bell and operating mechanism there for are shown more clearly in Figs. i to 10. the bell including a casing 6 having side flanges T secured to the inner side of thedoor 1 and containing a band spring 8 secured at one end to the side wall of the casing and its other end to the central arbor or shaft 9 that projects outwardly of the casing 8. The gearing associated with the spring 8 is of ordinary construction, the same including an escapement wheel 10 cooperating with an escapement lever 11 carrying a hammer 12, for engagement with the bell 13, mounted upon the outer projecting end of the shaft 9.
A slide plate '14 is mounted on the outer wall of the casing 6 and is adapted for en gagement'with the escapement wheel 10 to hold the'spring motor under tension. The slide 14 is shown more clearly in Figs. 5 and 10 as embodying an elongatedplate' having fingers 15 at the upper end thereof for engagement with the teeth of the escapement wheel 10 and a central longitudinal opening 16 providing a clearance for the spring motor shaft 9. A pair of spaced slots 17 are formed in the slide 14 through which guide pins 18 carried by the casing 6 extend to guide the plate in its sliding movements. The lower end of the slide 14 is provided with a cen tral slit with one side thereof bent at right angles to form a lug 18 projecting outwardly from the slide with an intermediate slot 19 in the lug for purposes presently to appear. To hold the slide 14 in engagement with the escapement wheel 10, a spring arm 20 having one end thereof fixed to a stud 21 carried by v the casing 6 has the free end thereof projecting into the side notch 22 of the slide to hold the same elevated with the fingers 15 engaging the teeth of the escapement wheel as shown in Fig. 5.
The push button 5 embodies a head 23 carrying a blade arm 24 with a beveled end 25 extending through an opening 26 in the door 1 with the beveled end 25' projecting through the slot. 27 in the lower end of the slide 16, the blade being retained in engagement with the plate by the cross pin 28 carried by the end of the blade outwardly of the slide 14 as shown in Fig. 5. A coil spring 29 surrounds the blade 24 between the head 23 and the door plate 24 in the inner end of the opening 26, to normally hold the push button at the limit of its outward movement as shown in Fig. 7. j
A link arm 4 connecting the slide 14 to the knob spindle 2 embodies a link member 30 bifurcated at its upper end and bent in opposite directions as at 31 with the upper end of the link received in the lug slot 19 while the upper bent ends 31 of the link overlie the lug 18. The lower end of the link 30 is connected to a pair of straps 32 rigidly secured to the knob spindle 2.
In the operation of the device, the spring 8 is placed under tension by rotating the bell 18 connected to the spring shaft 9, the spring the knob spindle.
being maintained under ,tension by the fingers 15 of the slide 14 engaging the escapement wheel 10, such engagement being effected by the spring 20. In theusual operation of the bell, pressure on the push button 5 will move the blade 24 inwardly to cause the beveled end 25 thereof to engage the bottom wall of the slide slot 27 to lower the slide against the tension of the spring 20 to release the escapement wheel 10 and permit vibration of the hammer 12 carried by the escapement lever 11. Upon release of pressure on the push button 5, the spring 29 will move the push button outwardly and permit the spring 20 to return the slide for engagement with the escapement wheel. Should the knob spindle be rotated, the link 30 cormected to the slide-will cause the slide to be lowered and free the escapement wheel to indicate movement of the door knob and spindle and a sounding of the bell.
While there is herein shown and described what is believed to be the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, c'ombinationand arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
lVhat is claimed as new is:
1. A combined door bell and burglar alarm comprising a bell adapted to be secured to a door, motor mechanism for operating the bell, a sliding tensioned plate associated with said motor mechanism for 'artions and engaging the bifurcated lug for connecting the plate to the door knob spindle for moving said plate upon rotation of 2. A combined door bell and burglar alarm comprising a bell adapted to be secured to a door, motor mechanism for operating the bell, a sliding tensioned plate associated with the motor mechanism for ar resting movement thereof, said plate having a slotted opening and a bifurcated lug adjacent the lower end, a push button l13.\' ing a beveled nose extending into the plate slot for shifting theplate to free the motor mechanism, and an independently operating link having a bent upper end engaging the bifurcated lug and connected at its lower end to a knob spindle for releasing the motor mechanism upon rotation of the spindle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
