LINE-STOP .AND SIGNAL DEVICE.
y Specification of Letters Patent.
ltateiited Oct. it), i913...
Application filed January 18,1909. Serial No. 472,827.
- stop and signal devices ot' such machines,
, nection as shown at9.
and it consists ot the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein shown, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the complete invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereoi". Fig. 3 is a sectional View of a support showing the arrangement of the stop signal operating device therein. Fig. 4 is cross sectional View of said support on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
1 vindicates a stop bar which constitutes a part of the paper carriage and to -which an adjustable stop 2 is attached, said stop being movable to vary it to any desired position thereon as requiredto permit the carriage to have greater or less movement as desired.
To the top 3 of the machine av bracket -Ll is attached, to which is pivoted a member 5, said member being sustained in proper position by a spring 6 connecting saine with the bracket 4. Two levers 7 are pivoted to the member and at their upper ends are connected to a support 8 which is in the form of two plates having an integral con- A spring 10 connects a downward extension 11v on the sup- -port 8 with the bracket 4, and holds said support 8 in a substantially horizontal position, the latter having a pin 12 engaging under an arm 13 on one of the levers 7, serving as a stop tor the support S.,
Near the inner end ot' the support S an operating pawl 14 is pivoted and is connected to the stop pawl 15 pivoted near the opposite end ot'said support by means ol the spring 16, said spring acting to `hold both the said parts in their idle positions. The pawl 14 .is formed with an oblique inner surface so that as the paper carriage travels late-.rally the. stop 2 will depress the inner end ot' the support. S until said stop passes beyond the outer edge ot said pawl 141-, at which time the spring 10 will retract and.
return the support S to its initial position. A spring arm 17 is attached to the support 8 and provided with a weight 1S at its free end, which by the rapid operation otl said support in returning to its idle position is thrown against the bell disk 15), sounding the same. vAfter this audible sig,- iial the larria ge may move a known distance until stopped by engagement ot' the stop 2 against the abutment bar l5 beyond which the carriage cannotI move, except after removal of the member 15 trom the path ot the part Q. The arrangement is such that when the parts 2.and15 are engaged, the
levers 't' will be slightly oscillated by the.
pressure imparted to said part 15.
A bell crank 2() is pivoted at 21 to some station-ary part ot' the machine and has a pin 2Q on one arm extending into slots 23 in the lower ends ot' the levers T, and hasy a link 24 connected to its opposite end whereby the key-locking mechanism is actuated and the keys rendered inoperative.
A link 25 is connected with the member 5 whereby said member and all the parts supported thereby may be tui'iied downwardly. This is lor the purpose of enabling the operator tio remove the stop or abutment 15 from the path ot' the stop member 2 should it be desirable to record additional characters in the saine line after engagement of the stop parts 2 and t5.
I ain aware that. there may be modifications aiid alterations in the construction and arrangement ot' the parts embodying this invention without departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and l do not restrict iiiyselt to identical features ot' coi-istruction or arrangement, but
1What l claim and desire to secure by lietters Patent is-- -1. In a recording machine, line stop iiit'iclianisni comprising a pivoted member, a
