UNITED STATES ISIIDOR HEYMAN, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
VALISE-HINGE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 11119 21, 1921.
Application filed February 12, 1920. Serial No. 358,115.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ismou Harman, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valise- Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
lvly invention is an improved valise hinge.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a plan of a valise in open position including my improved hinge.
Fig. 2 is a plan of my hinge.
Fig. 3 is a side View of my hinge.
In the drawing 1 indicates a valise and 2 i and 3 the hinge members thereof which are hinged together by my hinge 4.. In the edge of the hinge members of the valise are frames 5 and 6 respectively, the frame 6 being of smaller dimension than the frame 5 so as to fit within the frame when the valise is closed. My hinge includes a pair of hinge plates 7 and 8 and a pair of hinge plates 9 and 10, the plates 7 and 8 being pivoted to the plates 9 and 10 by a pivot 11 and spaced apart by washers 12 through which 9 and 10 respectively.
the pivot extends, and the ends of the pivot are riveted against the plates 8 and 10. The plates 8 and 10 are bent outwardly near the pivot 11 and offset from their companion plates 7 and 9 respectively so that the ends of the frames 2 and 3 may fit between the plates 7 and 8 and the plates My hinge may be secured to said frames by rivets 13 and 14, the rivets 13 extending through plates 7 and 8 and frame 2 and the rivets 14 extending through plates 9 and 10 and fra1ne3.
The double plates 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 provide securing means at both sides of the frames 2 and 3, thus reinforcing the hinge and providing a very strong and durable hinge for the hinge member of the valise.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A valise hinge including two pairs of hinge plates pivoted together one plate of each pair being oifset from the other plate.
2. A valise hinge including two pairs of hinge plates pivoted together, one plate of each pair being offset from the other plate and washers spacing said pairs of plates apart.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ISIDOR HEYMAN
