'Ehis invention relates to hingesv and particularly to what are known as concealed hinges adapted foruse in connection with refrigerators and like apparatus to provide the greatest possible opening of the door of such apparatus and further to effect a tight Sealing of the door when moved into closed position; and the object of the invention is to provide a hinge of the class and for the purpose specified, the several parts of the separate butts of which are composed of sheet metal whereby the hinge may be produced at a comparatively nominal cost;- a further obiect being to provide a hinge employing a plurality of sheet metal hook arms and link members supported in connection with the respective butts of the hinge and pivotally coupled with each other, one of the butts being fashioned to form spacing bearings for retaining the links in spaced relation on the pivot pins therefor; a further object being to provide means for guiding and reinforcing one of the pivot pins coupling the hook arms and link members to reinforce and strengthen the hinge. especially to eive strength thereto when the door or swinging member is in open or partially open position; a still fure ther object being to provide a hinge. the link and hook arm construction of which is such that the butt secured to the door or swinging member is capable of movement through an are greater than ninety degrees; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a hinge of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction and operation, efiicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which:

Said flanges have countersunk screw apertures 16 and retain the same in spaced relation within the aperture or recess In other words, this structure forms a substantially U- shaped butt body with the attaching flanges 14 extending in opposite directions from the projecting legs of said U-shaped body and at one side thereof.
The plate members 14 forming the bearing plates of the butt 14 are provided on their inner or adjacent faces with arc-shaped or semi-circular grooves 17 formed by outwardly pressed'portions 18. Said bearing plates are also provided with spaced apertures 19 and 20 arranged in common Vertical alinement. The outer side edge of the cross member 14 is provided with a plurality of vertically spaced notches 21 forming corresponding projecting bearing tongues 22. Substantially centrally of the cross member 14 and in vertical alinement with the apertures 20 are inwardly pressed bearing members 23,
note Figs. 5 and 6. It will also be noted that the arc-shaped recesses 17 open outwardly through the side plate or bearing members 14 adjacent the crossmember 14 permitting the assemblage of the separate butts of the hinge as will be apparent from the following description.
The butt member 15 consists of a flat sheet metal plate 15 having at its opposite ends countersunk screw apertures 24 to receive the screws for mounting said butt in connection with the door 11. Substantially centrally of the plate 15 is an elongated aperture 25 to receive projecting tongue members '26 on hook-shaped arms 27 and spacing plates 28 which constitute an integral part of the butt 15, said arms and plates being secured to the plate 15 of said butt by riveting the projecting tongues 26 in the aperture 25, as seen in Fig. 20f the drawing. The hook-shaped arms 27 and spacing plates 28 have comparas tively wide shoulder portions 29 which rest upon the outer face of the plate 15.
The free ends of the arms 27 are provided with apertures to receive a pivot and bearing pin 30 and the arrangement of the arms 27 is such that the top and bottom arms are adjacent and fit snugly within the bearing plates 14 of the butt- 14, note Fig. 4 of the drawing. The ends of the pin 30 pro ect beyond said upper and lower arms 27 and enter the recesses 17 and operate in said recesses to guide the butt member 15 in its movement, and serve to give strength and rigidity thereto, especially when the door 11 is in open position. It will also be apparent that the assembled butt 15 may be coupled with the butt 14 by passing the pin 30 through the open ends of the recesses 17.
A pivot pin 31 is mounted in the arms 27 outwardly of the spacing plates 28. R0- tatably mounted on said pin 31 are arc-shaped links 32, the free ends of which are rotatably mounted on pivot pin 33 mounted in the apertures 19 of the bearing plates 14*, and the links 32 are retained in spaced relation on the pin 33 by the projecting tongues 22. Mounted upon the pin 30 on the ends of the hook-shaped arms 27 are other links 34 which are also mounted upon a pivot pin 35 mounted in the apertures 20 of the bearing plates 14*, and the links 34 are retained in spaced relation on the pin 35 by the inwardly pressed portions 23 as seen in Fig. 5 of the drawing. It will be understood that the links 32 and 34 are in common horizontal alinement and are arranged intermediate the hook-shaped arms 27. It will be understood that in the assemblage of the separate butts as above described, the butt 15 will carry in addition to the arms 27, the links 32 and 34. After passing the pin 30 into the grooves 17, the apertures in the links 32-34 to receive the pins 3335, will be brought into alinement with the apertures 19 and 20 in the bearing plates 14, and the pins 33 and 35 will then be placed in position and may be retained in position by a slight riveting operation as will also be the ca se in securing the pin 31 in position to prevent its accidental displacement.
After the butt parts'have been assembled in the manner described, the same may be secured to the stationary support 10 and swinging member 11 in the manner illustrated. By virtue of the hook arm and link lever construction employed, it will be apparent that the door 11 is capable of movement from its closed position as seen in Fig. 1 through an arc of more than ninety degrees to its fully open position as indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing. Further, the structure of the hinge is such as to provide a firm compressing of the sealing strip 13 around the periphery of the door, and especially at the hinge side of the door to effect a perfectly sealed door. T his is especially important in the use of the hinge in connect-ion with ice boxes, refrigerators and other apparatus requiring the sealing of the door to retain the proper and desired conditions within the apparatus. It will be understood, however, that my invention. is not necessarily limited to any specific use of the hinge herein shown and described nor am I necessarily limited to the specific structure of the several parts shown and described, and various other changes in and modifications of the construc tion herein set out may be made within the scope of the appended claims without dellU l of the hinge, is movably supported,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An all sheet metal concealed hinge comprising two butt members, one of said butt members comprising a substantially U- shaped body, and the other a flat metallic i strip, means involving hook-shaped arms of said pin operate, said link members being pivoted on independent pivots in the first named butt member and pivoted to the arms of the second named butt member, and the first named butt member having bearing portions formed from the material thereof arranged intermediate said link members to retain the same in spaced relation on said pivot pins.
2. A hinge of the class described comprising two hinge butts, one of said butts being fashioned from sheet metal and comprising a U-shaped body forming spaced bearing plates, said bearing plates having at one side, laterally extending attaching flanges, each of said bearing plates having two pivot pin apertures to receive and support pivot pins, said bearing plates having recesses in which another pivot pin, carried by the other butt of the hinge, is movably supported, a plurality of links mounted on the first named pivot pins, and means formed of the mate rial of said body adjacent said pins for retaining said links in spaced relation on said pins.
3. A hinge of the class described comprising two hinge butts, one of said butts being fashioned from sheet metal and comprising a U-shaped body forming spared bearing plates. said bearing plates having at one side,
' laterally extending attaching flanges, each of said bearing plates having two pivot pin apertures to receive and support pivot pins, said bearing plates having recesses in which another pivot pin, carried by the other butt a plurality of links mounted on the first named pivot pins, means formed of the material of said body adjacent said pins for retaining said links in spaced relation on said pins, and
the other butt of the hinge including hookshap-ed arms with which said links otally connected.
4. In a hinge of the class described, one of the butts of which is fashioned from a sheet metal blank comprising elongated side plates are pivand a cross member joining said plates, said blank when folded, forming a butt comprising a U-shaped body, the arms of which are formed by portions of said side plates and the crosshead of which is formed by said member, the arms of said U-shaped body having at one side, laterally extending attaching flanges formed from the other parts of said side plates, and the arms of the U-shaped body forming spaced bearing plates having apertures and recesses to pivot and guide the link members of a hinge in connection therewith, pivot pins for said link members mounted in said apertures, and means on the crosshead of said U-shaped body for spacing the link members on said pivot pins.
5. In a hinge of the class described, one of the butts of which is fashioned from a sheet metal blank comprising elongated side plates and a cross member joining said plates, said blank when folded forming a butt comprising a U-shaped body, the arms of which are formed by portions of said side plates and the crosshead of which is formed by said member, the arms of said U-shaped body having at one side, laterally extending attaching flanges formed from the other parts of said side plates, and the arms of the U-shaped body forming spaced bearing plates having apertures and recesses to pivot and guide the link members of a hinge in connection therewith, pivot pins for said link members mounted in said apertures, and means on the crosshead of said U-shaped body for spacing the link members on said pivot pins, said means comprising spaced bearing members formed of the material of said crosshead.
6. A hinge having a pair of pivoted butts, and link members pivotally and slidably connected to said butts, one of said butts being fashioned from a sheet metal blank comprising side plates and a cross member joining said plates, said blank when folded forming a butt comprising a U-shaped body, the arms of which are formed by portions of said side plates, and the crosshead of which is formed by said member, the arms of said U-shaped body having at one side laterally extending attaching flanges formed from the other parts of said side plates and the I arms of the U-shaped body forming spaced bearing plates having apertures and recesses adapted to pivot and guide the link members of said hinge in connection therewith and the crosshead of said U-shaned body being recessed at the side thereof adjacent said flanges to provide a clearance for the mounting and movement of said link members.
