This invention relates to a device for washing windows and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the exterior face of the transparent member of a window sash can be washed from the interiorthus doing away with the necessity of a person leaning out of the window or standing on the window sill in order to wash the exterior part o-f the transparent 1o member.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specificially pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying draw- LU ings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side view of the device.

Figure 2 is a front view thereof.

Figure 3 is a rear view.

Figure 4 is an enlarged rear view of the pad carrying member.

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view through Figure 4.

Figure 6 is a section on line 6 6 of Figure 5.

In these drawings, the numerals 1 indicate a pair. of spaced bars and the numeral 2 indicates a handle member placed between the bars at one end thereof and fastened therebetween by the pin 3. An arm 4 is pivoted between the other end of the bars by the bolt 5 and the pad or cloth carrying member 6 is pivotally connected to the outer end of the arm 4 through means of a channel shaped bracket 7 fastened to one face of the member 6 and between the limbs of which, the free end of the arm 4 extends, the pivot pin 8 passing through the limbs of the bracket "i" and said end of the arm. A pair of looped springs '9 is connected at their inner ends to a pin 10 which passes through the limbs of the'bracket 7 each spring extending beyond the end of the bracket and having its bight- J0 portion of considerable length as shown in Figure 4 so that these springs will hold a soft cloth, pad or the like as shown. at 11 on the member 6, this cloth or pad passing over the front face of the member 6 and having its ends passing under the enlarged outer ends of the springs which press said ends of the cloth or pad against the rear face of the member G. This member 6 is also channel shaped in cross section with its ianges extending rearwardly as shown.

One end of a coil spring 12 is connected with said intermediate part of the arm 4 as shown at 13 and the other end of the spring is formed with a hook 14 which is adapted to engage anyone of a number of pins 15 which pass through the members 1. rl`hus the tension of the spring can be adjusted. This spring tends to move the arm 4 toward the members 1.

In using the device the members 1 are projected through the window in such a manner that the pad carrying member 6 will engage the outer face of the transparent member of the sash. The device is manipulated by means of the handle 2 to bring the cloth or pad on the member 6 in contact with all portions of the transparent member so as to wash and clean the same. The spring 12 will cause the pad on the member 6 to press against the transparent member so as to clean the same. This member 6 should be fiat enough so that it can be projected to fit in between the upper and lower sash-es when the same are partly placed together.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided simple means for enabling one to wash the exterior face of a window glass from the interior of a room.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A window washing device comprising a body part, an arm pivoted to one end of the body part, a. cloth carrying member pivotally connected to the outer end of the arm and a sprin connecting the arm with the body part or pressing the cloth carrying member against a window glass.

2. A window washing device comprising a body part, a handle at one end thereof, an arm pivotaly yconnected to the body part at the other end, a cloth carrying member pivotally connected to the free end of the arm, a spring connectin the arm to the body part, and means Where y the tension of the spring may be adjusted.
