Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 24,1921.
Application filed January 31, 1918. Serial No. 214,564.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE` HENRY WHEARY, acitizen of the United States, and
'resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have inve-nted new and useful Improvements in Trunk4 Laundry-Bags and Covers, of whichthe following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of' this specification.
p This invention relatesto improvements in trunk laundry bag and cover more particularly adapted for use in wardrobe trunks.l
In ordinarywardrobe and other trunks no provision is made for coveringthe .garments within the wardrobe section of the Ytrunk to protectthem fromv dust while the Aobjectionable features and provide a laundry bag and cover which will extendy over the garment' section ofthe trunk to protect the garments, said laundry bag and cover being formed with al soiled apparel coneasily placed or removed therefrom.
' A further object of lthe `invention is to provide a trunk laundry bag and cover which may be easily attached to ordinary wardrobe trunks now on the. market.
A further object of the invention is to provide a trunk laundry bag and Vcover which also'serves to maintain garments suspended within the wardrobe section of the trunkin position on the hangers.
A further object ofthe invention is to provide a trunk laundry bag -land -cover in which the partsf may ben easily detached from the trunk'forV cleaning.
1 A further object ofthe" invention is to provide ra trunk laundryvbag and cover which is 'ofsimple 'construction is strong and durable and may be easily mounted within a trunk.
1With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved trunk laundry bag and cover and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all .equivalents thereof.
'In ,the accompanying drawing ,in which Ataken on the line 2-2 ofFig. 1;
tion. with upper parallel` fixed tracks 11,fexten the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Figure 1 is a front view of the wardrobe section ofa trunk showing the improved laundry bag and cover ,mounted therein, parts shown as broken away, the view also indicating by dotted lines a portion of the other section of the trunk; Y
Fig. 2is/ a vertical sectional view thereof Fig. 3 isa top view ofthe trunk section shown in Fig. 1, parts of the laundry kbag and cover shown broken away; j
Fig. 4 is a detail view on a larger scale of the connectorbar;
Fig. 5 is a detail view offa of connector; and ,y
Fig. 6 is a detail view of another modified form of connector.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 8 modifiedl form 'indicates the wardrobe section of a wardrobe trunk, 9 the drawer section and 104 the top cover which is hinged to the,l drawer section, and forms the top cover for the wardrobe sec- TheV wardrobe section is` provided sion tracks 12, garment hangers 13 mounted on the tracks and a swingable shoe box y14: mounted inthe lower front portion of the l said wardrobe section. tainer into which the soiled apparel may be The impoved laundrybag and cover 15 .comprisea piece of material, such as fabric,
which extends horizontally from the u per rear portion of the wardrobe section o vthe is also provided with rearwardly and downwardly extending hook members 21 whichv4 hook over the upper rear edge of thetrunk `trunk over the4 garment hangers and the extension rails and then` downwardly inl collar and in connection with the Vh0oks'20 securely hold the bar and the rear edge `portion of the fabric in place. The top cover 10 when in closed position as, shown in Fig.,k
i bag.
2 locks the hook members 21 to the trunk collar. y y
The vertically extending or front portion of the fabric is of double thickness with the inner portion of considerable fullness Vto form a laundry bag 22, access to which is 'through theiopening 23. A flap 24 closing said opening is held in closed position by snap buttons 25.
. By positioning the laundry bag portion in the lower front portion of the wardrobe section, space is utilized which is not ordinarily used and as garments are removed from the hangers and worn the space is gradually automatically increased inwardly for holding the soiled apparel.
The upper or horizontally extending-portion of the'fabric may also be of double thickness to form a pocket 26 to receive handkercliiefs or other articles of apparel. Said pocket when containing articles also Vserves as a pad or cushion interposed between the garment hangers and the trunk top cover and into which pad or cushion the garments,
- drapedor folded over the hangers, embed and are yieldingly held in position.l
Entrance to the pocket 26 is through the same opening 23 provided for the laundry In the modified form of connector bar 19 shown in Fig. 5 the hook members 21 are omitted and in lieu thereofeach hook member-20` is provided with a thumb screw 27 Vwhich `extends through the outerV free end ofthe hook member and threads' into 'the bar 19 thus providing for` clamping the bar 19 directly to the tracks. l
.In the Fig. 6 modification the hook members are omitted and'each end ofthe bar is "providedwith a short downwardly extending` pin 28 which enters an opening 29 formed in each track.
As the fabric extends over the open top and front open side portion of the wardrobe section. it forms a protecting cover for'the garments suspended from the hangers mounted within said section.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the laundry bag and cover are of very simple construction and are well adapted for'the purpose described.
