Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 17, 1921.
Application filed July so, 1920. Serial nojsmgsss.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, KAzIMInRAs L.
Kniinvrius, a citizen of Lithuania, residing at New Haven, county. of New Haven. and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothesline-Reels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes hangers, particularly that class in which a plurality of lines is wound upon a common reel, and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a means for locking and unlocking the line reel as soon as the desired length of the lines has been paid out, the free ends of the lines being secured to an object.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended clalm in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a sectional view of the casing of a device constructed according to the present invention and its interior.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the casing on line k t of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a similar section taken along line 55 of Fig. 1. p
A casing 10 ofoblong, rectangular shape is provided at its rear wall with a number of eyes 11 by means of which the casing can be fastened to suitable hooks in a wall or A longitudinal shaft 12 of substantially square cross-section is mounted with its cylindrical ends within the end walls 13 and 1 1 of the casing and one of the ends of this shaft is extended through the respective side wall and carries outside of the casing a crank handle 15. A plurality of juxtaposed reels 16 is mounted therewith. Each reel carries a clothes line 17 wound thereon, the inner end of which is secured to the shaft by being passed through an opening in the shaft and knotted behind the opening, as indicated at 18 Fig. 1. c H
The outer free ends of the lines 17 are passed through suitable openings in the front wall 19 and secured to a strip of wood 20 provided with a plurality of holes 21 through which the lines are passed and then knotted as indicated at 22. The strip 20 carries at its outer edge a number of eyes 23 with which the strip can be secured to supporting hooks or the like on a wall or similar support. The two outer disks 24 and 25 of the end reels within the easing are each provided with a plurality of holes 26 for the reception of the locking pins 27, each of which is provided with an outer operating head 28.
In order to prevent a complete withdrawal of the pins 27 which are passed through suitableopenings in the end walls 13 and 14,-an opening 29 is provided in each of said walls and the pins 27 are provided with lateral pegs 30 playing within the openings 29 and'allowing a forward and backward movement of the pins within certain limits. Access to the openings 29 is had by means of plates '31 which are screwed as at 32 to the inner faces of the end walls of the casing to cover the openlugs 29. c
In operation, the casing is hooked onto a wall and the strip with the plurality of hooks of a convenient support as a wall or the like.
If it is desired to wind the lines again upon the reels the strip is made free from its support, the pins are withdrawn from their engagement with the reel disks and the crank is operated until the lines are wound upon the reels and the strip is engaging the front wall of the casing. upon the shaft within the casing to turn It will be understood of course that the device can be changed in its form and in the construction of its minor details with: out departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. 9
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as fO1lOWS In a device of the oharaeter described, a means for locking and unlocking the line reels, comprising pins adapted to be engaged into any of a plurality of holes in said reels, pegs on said pins to both sides of the same and heads on the outer ends of the pins for limiting the movement of said pins in one and the other directions sub- 10 stantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
KAZIMIERAS L. KRIZEVICIUS.
