Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
GEORGE S. LEE, 0E WoEoESTEE, MASSAoEUsETTs, ASSIGNOR T0 HIM- SELF AND PBESBURY wEsT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,781, dated April 15, 1873 application filed February 18, 1873.
- of the leather from which the leg is formed,
and will be hereafter described.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it in detail.
In the drawing, A B represent parts of the pieces of leather from which the boot-leg O is formed. The edges or and b are turned out and closed together up to the slits c and d, after which the edge e is slipped over the edge f, when the parts are stitched together, as shown in Fig. 1, after which the brace D is stitched on, so that when the boot is completed it will have the appearance shown in I have described or shown how one side is made, but it will be understood that the other side of the leg is made in the same way.
By making a boot in the way described the side seams at the lower part of the boot are rendered strong while they are well protected, and in addition thereto the seams are left even and smooth upon the inside as far up as the slits c and d, and this is as far as there is any danger of chafing to the foot or ankle. Then again there is quite a saving in leather over the mode of making boots by extending the brace from top to bottom of the leg.
Having described myimprovements in boots, what I claim thereinas new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
An improved boot, the side seams. of which are formed as described-that is to say-with the lower turned -out edges a I) covered by braces or saddles D, and the upper lapped,
edges 0 f, substantially as shown and set forth.
GEORGE S. LEE.
