Description

E. L. WHITAKER. CLAMPING BRACELET FOR MITTENS, GLOVES &c.
O W. m 8
' ,EdzzaLmiZgz/ren UNITED STATES PATENT EDNA L. WHITAKER, OF WEST BRANCH, MICHIGAN.
CLAMPING-BRACELET FOR MITTENS, GLOVES, &o.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDNA L. WHITAKER, a citizen of the United States. residing at West Branch, in the county of Ogemaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clampingnracelets for Mittens, Gloves, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to the art of gloves or mittens and the like, and particularly to an improved clamping bracelet for use in connection with the wrist portion of a mitten or glove, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a clamping bracelet of this kind, which is adjustable, so as to lit and clamp the mitten or glove or the like to wrists of different sizes.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a clamping bracelet consisting of sheet metal )referabl aluminum. thoiwh not necessarily, for it is obvious that any other suitable metal may be used, there being adjustable connections between the ends of the band to clamp the band or bracelet on the wrist, to prevent the mitten or glove from slipping oil the hand.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a mitten or glove having a folded portion to receive the bracelet in combination with a flap adjacent the folded portion of the wrist part of the mitten or glove,
to cover the adjustably connected ends of the bracelet or band.
A further .object of the invention is to provide rolled edges on the band or bracelet to prevent the metal from cutting the fabric or other material from which the mitten or glove is constructed.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved adjustable connection between the ends of the band or bracelet. I
It is also the aim of the invention to provide a clamping braceletfor holding mittens or gloves on the hand to prevent the removal of the same and hence avoid thumb and finger sucking.
i Vhile the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a reduction of the invention to a more practical form for commercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible to changes and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they Specification of Letters Patent. Patgmtgd Iflgmr 1Q), 121 Application filed May 12. 1920. Serial No. 380,841. I
are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed. I
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
Inthe drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mitten, constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the bracelet or band arranged in the folded'part of the wrist portion of the mitten or glove and illustrating the 'fiap closed.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the wrist portion of the mitten or glove showing the flap raised, thereby illustrating the adjustable connections between the ends of the band or Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the band or bracelet removed; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail horizontal sectional view on line erof Fig. 3 through the adjustable connections of the ends of the bracelet or band.
Referring more especially to the drawlngs, 1 designates a mitten or glove or similar wearing apparehwhich may be constructed of any suitable material, leather, fabric of any kind, or the like. The wrist portion of tlie mitten or glove is folded and stitched as shown at 2, in order to provide a channel for the reception of a bracelet or band 3, which may be constructed of any suitable metal, preferably aluminum, though not necessarily, for it is obvious that other metals may be used. This bracelet or band 3 for the greater part of its length upon its opposite edges is provided with rolled portlons 5, to prevent the band or bracelet from cutting the material, from which the mitten, glove or the like is formed. These rolled portlons are cut away near the opposite ends of the band or bracelet. One end 6 of the band or bracelet is provided with a threaded stud 7 The other end 8 of the band or bracelet has riveted thereto as at 9 a plate 10. This plate is bent as shown at 11, so as to offset the body portion of the plate lO from the outer face of the end 8 of the band or bracelet. This offset body portion of the plate 10 and the end part 8 of the band or bracelet are provided with registering elongated slots 12 and 13. A thumb nut 14: is provided and which comprises a head 15 (which engages the outer faces of the side of the offset portion of the body of the plate 10) and a base 16 (which is interposed between the oilset body portion of: the plate 10 and the outer face of the end part 8 of the band or bracelet). The head and base 15 and 16 are integrally connected by means of the contracted neck 17, which engages the elongated slot 12 of the oltset body part of the plate 10. The thuinb nut is capable of longitudinal movement relatively to the slot 12. The thumb nut has a threaded socket 18 to receive the threaded stud '1", which. pisses through the slot 13 ot the end portion 8 of the band or bracelet. The bar or bracelet is inserted through the channel or the folded part of the wrist portion of the glove, so that the end portion 8 of the band or bracelet 3131f overlie the end portion 6 as shown, whereby the opposite edges of the end portion 8 may engage betwe nthe rolls 5 adjacent the end portion 6 of the band. The end portions of the band or bracelet are so arranged, when the mitten or glove is applied to the hand, and the band is drawn sulliciently tight about the wris after which the thumb nutis tightened, thereby drawin the two end portions 6 and 8 of the band bracelet tightlytc-. get-her, hence clamping the wrist portion of the mitten or glove in position, to prevent accidental movement of the mitten. The folded portion of the wrist part of the mitten is cut away, as shown, there being a flap 19 which may be folded over, whereby the thumb nut and the connection between the opposite ends of the band or bracelet are obscured from vision; This llap 19 is provided with the usual male and female fastening connection 20 with the mitten or glove to'hold the flap closed.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. The combination with a hand wearing apparel, provided with achannel at its wrist portion, of a band engaging through said channel, one end of the band having a ,i said otlset spaced body of the and the end portion of the band provided with registering slots, and a thumb button adjustable in the slot of the ilate and having a portion intermediate the olate and the end portion of the band and to draw the two ends of the band tightly n tion with a hand wearing apparel having its wrist portion provided w th a channel, of a band or bracelet engagirough said channel, the greater porthe opposite edges of the band or let being rolled longitudinally, one end e bane overlying the opposite end and 111g slidably engaged between the opposrolls of the band, and means adjustably connecting tie opposite ends of the band, whereby the band may it wrists of different es, the wrist portion of the hand wearing parel having a folding iiapprovided with a connection with the wearing apparel to cover the connections between the opposite o ls of the band.
11 testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence or two witnesses.
EDNA L. lVHITAKER- CHAPIN,
l VHITAKER.
