Description

Oct. 18, 1932. l. STEINBERGER GLOVE Filed March 12, 1931 INVENTOR WITNESSES I W IrzzYLn Sfwnber er ATTORN EY5 Patented Oct. 18, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE IRWIN STEINBERGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO STEINBERGER BROS. GLOVE CORP., OF NEW YORK N. Y., A CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA GLOVE Application filed March 12, 1931. Serial No. 522,061.
An object of the invention is to provide a glove with a longitudinally extending fold or folds, and particularly to provide a glove with a fold or folds extending longitudinally above the wrist portion of the glove. These folds serve to hold the glove in place in adj usted position on the arm of the wearer and prevent the undesirable slipping of the glove downwardly on the arm towards the wrist. The folds also serve to prevent the glove from twisting on the arm of the wearer. These longitudinally extending folds also serve as guides and assist the wearer to pull the glove to proper position on the arm without twisting.
Another object of the invention is to provide a glove with means for preserving the fold or folds so that the folds will perform their desired function each time the glove is worn. These folds are preferably obtained and are preserved by providing transversely extending means or members secured to the glove at the fold or folds and preferably at the sides of the fold or folds. These members may be tape or elastic members or threads connecting opposite sides of a fold. When the transversely extending members are elastic the glove may be pulled on very easily, as the elastic members permit of the sufficient transverse stretch of the glove to make this possible.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention i described.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views, of which Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing a glove manufactured in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is another view of the glove, as it appears on the arm of the wearer,
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view illustrating the longitudinally extending fold,
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the longitudinally extending fold held in place by a modified means.
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that the glove has a hand portion 11, a wrist portion 12' and an arm portion 13, the arm portion 13 having at opposite sides longitudinally extending gathered folds 14,-these folds 14 extending from above the wrist portion 12 to the upper edge 15 of the gloove. As will be seen by referring to Figure 3 of the drawing, the arm portion 13 at each side has two seams 16 which connects the body of the arm portion of the glove with the longitudinally extending fold 14. Each longitudinally extending fold 14 is preserved by means of transversely extending members which may be tape or elastic members 17 and which are spaced apart and have their ends 18 secured to the arm portion of the glove at or adjacent the seams 16, the tape or elastic members 17 being secured to the folds 14 between their ends so that they will serve to produce longitudinally extending creases 19 or gathered portions in the folds 14.
As shown in Figure 5 of the drawing, if desired, these folds 14 may be preserved by means of stitching 20 extending transversely from one seam 16 to the other seam at each fold 14, the stitching serving to draw the opposite edges 16 of each fold together and gheciieby maintain the configuration of the The longitudinally extending folds 14 will make it possible for the glove to stretch laterally while it is being adjusted on the arm of the wearer and when the glove is in position the folds will exert a transverse pressure against the arm of the wearer to hold the arm portion of the glove in place. This gripping action of the arm portion of the glove at the folds will assist in preventing the glove from twisting on the arm and will also assist the wearer to guide the arm portion of the glove as it is pulled up in position;
What is claimed is:
1. A glove having an arm portion with a longitudinally extending gathered fold extending the length of the said arm portion, and a plurality of transversely extending members spaced apart at the gathered fold and secured throughout their length to the gathered fold of the glove and between the sides of the fold.

4. A glove having an arm portion with two longitudinally extending seams spaced apart and extending the length of the said arm portion to form a fold therebetween, and transversely extending members spaced apart at the fold and with ends of the members secured to the arm portion at the seams and with the medial portions of the members secured to the folds.
5. A glove having an arm with two longitudinally extending seams spaced apart and extending the length of the said arm portion to form a fold therebetween, and transversely extending elastic members spaced apart at the fold and with ends secured to the arm portion at the seams and with the medial portions of the members secured to the folds.
6. A glove having a wrist portion and an arm portion extending therefrom, the arm portion having one or more longitudinal folds extending from beyond the wrist portion substantially to the upper edge of the glove, and transversely extending means secured to the arm portion of the glove and to the fold or folds from side to side of the fold or folds.
7. A glove having a wrist portion and an arm portion extending therefrom, the arm portion having one or more longitudinal folds extending from beyond the wrist portion substantially to the upper edge of the glove, and transversely extending elastic members spaced apart at the folds or folds and secured to the fold or folds from side to side.
8. A glove having arm-gathered portions with longitudinally extending outwardly disposed gathered folds and one or more transversely extending members secured to the gathered portions.
9. A glove having arnrgathered portions with longitudinally extending outwardly disposed gathered folds and one or more transversely extending elastic members secured throughout their length to'the gathered portions.
10. A glove having an arm portion with two longitudinally extending seams and a,
gathered portion forming longitudinally extending outwardly disposed gathered folds between the seams, and transverse means secured to the gathered folds and between the seams for preserving the gathered folds in position.
11. A glove having an arm portion with arm portion, the transversely extending members being secured to the arm portion at the gathered folds and to the gathered folds intermediate the sides of the gathered folds for preserving the latter in gathered form.
