$OFT-COLLAR HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Iac ent. Patented Apr. 12, 1921;
Application filed February 12, 1921. Serial No. 444,332.
1/ 0 oil whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, ARTHUR L. Borron- LEY, a citizen or the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of lriassachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soft-Collar Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in soft collar holders and the primary obj ectthereof is to provide a holder which is of novel and ornamental appearance and wherein improved means are provided for eilectively gripping the collar ends so as to prevent any possible movement of the holder when in position.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder wherein but three parts are employed and held in their assembled relation without the use of solder, or other extraneous fastening means.
Still further the invention aims to provide a soft collar holder which can be economically produced and easily assembled.
Further and other objects will be later set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation;
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4l. of Fig. 1.
in proceeding in accordance with the present invention. a central or front member 1 is cn'iployed of curved formation as depicterv in Fig. 1, this member having top and bottom flanges 2 and 3 which engage the top and bottom of a looped member 3. The front edges or? member 3 abut the rear face oi member 1 and the rear edges thereof are engaged by resilient strip or gripping member 41: which latter is formed with substantially ll-shaped 5 that project within the looped ends of the member 3. The flanges 2 and 3 of the central member 1 are provided with extensions 6 which latter are bent inwardly toward. each other so as to firmly hold the central portions oi. the loop member 3' and the gripping member 4: in the position of Fig. 4:, in which position the parts are rigidly held by frictional engage ment so as to be incapable of any movement except movement of the aws 5 with respect to the looped ends of the member 3',
It will be seen that the member 3' has symmetrical exposed ends each of loop formation which extend beyond the ends of the member 1, and thus enhance the ornamental or attractive appearance of the device; It will further be seen, that since the ends 7 of the gripping member 4 extend outwardly beyond the ends of the looped member 3 and in spaced relation to the rear sides of the ends of member v3, the collar ends can be inserted between the ends 7 and the ends of loop member 3', and will ride up the outer sides of the jaws ,5, over the apices of the latter and will then be forced by such apices within the loops at the ends of the member 8'.- Thus an efiective gripping action is attained, since portions of the collar will engage within the loops of member 3 and with the top and bottom sides of the loops, thus holding the holder against vertical movement.
In addition it will be seen that the central portions of the looped member 3 are pinched or forced together, so that same will exert tension against the flanges 2 and 3 of the central member 1, thus increasing the rigidity of the loop-member.
It will further be seen that no solder whatever is employed in attaching the parts, or in assembling them in their proper relation.
In addition it will be apparent that since the gripping member 4: is of curved formation as depicted in Fig. 1, same will be held by the inbent extensions 6 against all longitudinal movements.
Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a soft collar holder, a central member having spaced top and bottom rearwardly extending flanges, a looped member having its sides at the center thereof pinched together and engaged between said flanges, the looped ends of said member projecting beyond the respective ends of the central member, and a gripping member having approximately V-shaped jaws adjacent its ends extending into the looped ends of the loop member, the ends of the gripping member a grippin being curved'outwardly and spaced from the looped ends of the, loop member, the flanges of the central member being bent inwardly to clamp the central part of the gripping member against the rear side edges of the central part of the loop member.
2. In a soft collar holder, a central member, a loop member having its ends extending beyond the respective ends of the central member, and a gripping member engaged at its center with the rear side of the loop member, the central member having parts extending over the center of the loop member and over the rear central part of the gripping member to hold said parts in fixed relation'to the central member.
3. In a soft collar holder, a central member, a looped member engaged therewith,
member superimposed at its center upon t e rear of the center of the looped member, and means to fixedly hold said parts in their said relation.
4:. In a soft collar holder, a central member,a looped member engaged therewith, and a gripping member having jaws extending into the looped ends of the looped memher.
5. In a soft collar holder, a central mem ber, a looped member rearwardly thereof and having its ends extending beyond the ends of the central member, and a gripping member rearwardly of the looped member and having jaws cooperating therewith.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR L. BOTTOMLEY.
