SOFT-COLLAR HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application filed December 31, 1920. Serial No. 434,274.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALPHA H. Mn'rcALr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soft-Collar Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in soft collar holders, and the primary object thereof is to provide a holder which can be easily and simply constructed, and which can be made out of scrap or short pieces of stock which otherwise might be of little use, thereby to enable the holder to be economically produced.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder wherein the jaws have an increased clamping efficiency, and to otherwise improve the holder in general and to impart to same an ornamental and attractive appearance.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the inven tion;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation;
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 1 is a section on line 4-4. of Fig. 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention there is employed a pair of substantially similar members each hav ing a substantially straight arm 1 bent at right angles at 2 and then further bent to form an approximately V-shaped arm 3, the angle of the V 4L being disposed so as to abut the inner. face of the straight arm 1 as depicted in Fig. 1, while the outer or free ends 5 form ll-shaped entrances between the arms also as evidenced in Fi 1.
An attaching clip 6 is employed whicdl is approximately C-shapc, the clip being tightly secured about the abutting parts or right angular portions 2 of the two members and being disposed in the space between the several arms 1 and 3.
These right angular parts 2 are of suiiicient length so as to aflord firm contacting surfaces in order that when the clip is rigidly secured in place no movement is possible with respect to the members themselves, and in addition the clip is of a width but slightly less than the lengths of the parts 2, so that the side edges of the clip will abut the arms 1 and 3 and in this way prevent any movement of the clip along the parts 2.
Itwill be seen from the foregoing that the arms 1 and 3 will exert considerable tension against the collar ends due to the fact that the arms are each formed of a single or integral short piece of material with their transverse parts 2 held in firm abutting relation. The outer faces of the arm may be decorated or ornamented as desired, and due to the divergent ends 5 the collar ends can be easily introduced between the arms 1 and 3.
It will further be seen that the entire structure involves but three parts, and that their assemblage is had without the use of solder or the like.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a soft collar holder, a pair of sub stantially U-shaped members having their closed ends abutted, said members having intermediate collar gripping parts, and a C- shaped 'clip tightly secured about said abutted portions and engaged at its ends with the inner side faces of each of the two members.
2. In a soft collar holder, a pair of substantially U-shaped members'having their closed ends in abutting engagement, and means to rigidly secure said ends together.
3. A soft collar holder including a pair of independent members each having collar engaging means at its outer end and having their inner ends abutting, and a clip engaged over said inner ends and disposed between the sides of the members to rigidly hold the members together.
4:. In a soft collar holder, a pair of inclependent members having their inner ends abutting and their outer ends formed with collar gripping jaws, and means to rigidly secure said abutting inner ends together.
5. In a soft collar holder, a pair of collar ALPHA H. METCALF,
