HARRY G. NORWOOD, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM FULD, OF
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
ROCKING TOY.
Specification of Letters Tatent.
Patented Apr. 5-, 1921.
Application filed August 12, 1920. Serial No. 402,983.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY G. Nonwoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rocking Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, and more particularly to the rocker or rocking type of toy. v
An object of the invention is to provide a rocking toy having a plurality of figures which when rocked, will remain constantly in parallel relation. one with the other.
Another object of the invention is to provide a rocking toy, with a slidable weight, to facilitate the operation of said toy when put in motion.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple rocking toy, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and durable in structure.
Other objects will appear as the descrip tion proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which constitute a part of my specification,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved toy, also showing the toy in dotted lines, as positioned when in its farthest arc of travel;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the improved rocking toy, and
Fig. 3 is a front sectional view taken on the lines 2-2 of Fig. 2.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification to designate corresponding parts.
The rockers 1 are spaced in parallel relation one with the other, and are thus held by means of the rods or shafts 2, located near the opposite ends of said rockers.
A pair of arms or brackets 3 are pivotally mounted on each of the shafts 2, and are held in spaced position at their outer ends by means of the bolts or connecting rods 4.
Tubular spacing, housing or collars 5 are positioned about said rods 4:. The figure toys 6 of any desired type or shape have bearings or collars 7 passing loosely through their central portions, said bearings being pivotally mounted on the rods 4:, and having their ends in contact with the ends of the spacing collars 5.
A rod 8 is fixed at its opposite ends to the bearings 7 thereby connecting the toys 6, and carries a slidable weight 9.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that when the toy is worked, the weight will slide down the rod Stoward the figure 6, which is below the dead center line, while the momentum will carry the rocking toy back until it again passes the dead center line, whereupon the weight will slide down toward the other toy 6. This operation will continue until the momentum is not sufficient to carry the toy over the center line.
Further, it will be seen that the pairs of arms 3 will be in parallel position at all times, while the figure toys rock or swing backward and forward, thereby giving an impression that they are kicking the weight back and forth along the rod. The figure toys will hang in a vertical plane to the floor or ground when the toy is not in motion.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A rocking toy comprising a pair of spaced rockers, means connecting the opposite ends of said rockers, arms carried by said connecting means, means connecting the outer ends of said arms, figure toys pivotally mounted on said last referred to means, spacing collars mounted on said arm connecting means between said figure toys and said arms, a rod connecting said figure toys, and a weight slidable upon said rod, substantially as hereinbefore described.
2. A rocking toy comprising a pair of spaced rockers, means connecting the opposite ends of said rockers, arms carried by said connecting means, a pair of figure toys carried by said arms, a rod connecting said figure toys, and a weight slidably mounted on said rod, substantially as described.
3. A rocking toy comprising a pair of spaced rockers, means connecting the opposite ends of said rockers, pivoted arms carried by said connecting means, bearing rods In testimony whereof I affix my signature connecting the free ends of sand arms, plv- 1n the presence of tWo Witnesses.
otally mounted figure toys carried by said I HARRY G NORWOOD bearing rods a rod connecting said figure toys, and a weight slidably mounted on said Witnesses. rod, whereby the figure toys will remain in WILLIAM F ULD,
7 parallel position one With the other. WILLIAM A. FULD.
