ANTHONY BALINT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHADE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Mar. 29, 1921.
Application filed. June 1, 1920. Serial No. 385,816.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, ANTHONY BALINT, a
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby "the movable part oi the v clamp may be easily and quickly manipulated to clamp or release the shade.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and ngement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully cescribed, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and. specifieally pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
Figure l is a View showing the invention in use.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on line 2-2 oi Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and l are detail views of the clamp.
In these views 1 indicates the window frame. 2 the sash and 3 the shade which is carried by the usual shade roller. When the shade is pulled down. and the window is open, said shade will be blown about by the wind thus damaging the shade or causing it to be wound up upon its roller. My invention relates to clamping means for holding the shade in the position shown in l and si h means consists of a pair of clamps secured to the window casing and the side edgesof the shade. Each clamp consists of an L-shaped plate 5 which has one limb screwed tothe window casing, the other limb extending outwardly to engage the rear side of the shade. The other member 6 of the clamp is also of substantially L-shape withone-limb extending parallel to the outwardly extending limb of the first member and acting to engage the front face of the shade and to clamp the shade to the outwardly extending limb of the first member.
first member. This connection of the two members comprises an ofiiset tongue 7 formed in the member 5 and engaging openings formed in the side flanges of a channel part 8 formed on the second member so that said second member is slidably mounted on the tongue. bolt 9, carried by the channel-shaped part,
thumb nut 10 for clamping the two parts together. It will thus be seen that by loosening the thumb nut themember 6 may have its jaw moving away from the jaw of the member 5 to permit the shade tobe placed between the two jaws. Then the member 6 is moved'into clamping position to clamp the shade between the two jaws and the nut isthen tightened to hold said member 6 in clamping position. I prefer to roughen the adjoining faces of the jaw parts of the clamp as shown at 11. y
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features Ormy invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is I 1. ln combination with a window casing and a shade, a pair of clamps connected with the said casing, one at each side thereof, and ar-anged to grip the side edges of the shade to clamp the shade in lowered position.
A shade clamp or the class described comprising an L-shaped member having one limb secured to the window casing, an offset tongue on said limb, second member also of substantially L-shape and having a channel part on one limb having openings in its flanges for receiving the tongue, said tongue being slotted, a bolt carried by the channel part and passing through said slot a thumb nut on the bolt for clamping the channel part to the tongue and the other limbsof the. two members being parallel and forming jaws for engaging the shade.
In testimony whereof I afiix m signature.
' I ANTHONY ALTNT.
The other limb of said second .member is adjustably connected with the This tongue is slotted and a I passes through said slot and isengaged by a
