COLLAPSIIBLE SHIPPING-BOX.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY D. Boxor, a citizen of the United States, residin at Defiance, in the county of Defiance and tate of Ohio, have invented a newand useful Collapsible Shipping-Box, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to collapsible shipping boxes or the like, and more particularly to a novel means for securing a cover to the box, whereby the elements forming the securing means may be repeatedlyemployed for accomplishing the cover securing result.

The object of the invention is to provide means cooperating with the securing wires of the box, whereby the securing wires may be bent to secure the cover to the box so that the ends of the wire will not break, during the bending operation.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds,-the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of'what is claimed, without de arting from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the.

box, which in the present instance is of a conventional design and includes the side walls 5 and 6 respectively, and bottom wall 7, there being provided a removable cover 8 for closing the open side of the box.

The securing plates 9 which are disposed in spaced relation with each other through out the length of the box, form an important feature of the present invention, and each of these plates includes a relatively long strip of material having spurs 10 stamped Specification of Letters Patent. from the body portion thereof, the spurs being disposed in staggered relation with each other, and spaced equidistantly apart, the spurs being designed to embed themselves in the cover so that the same will be secured against displacement thereon.

As shown, the ends of these plates indicated at 11 extend beyond the side walls of the box, as more clearly shown by Figs. 1 and 6 of the drawings, there being provided notched portions 12 formed in the side edges of the respective plates, the notched portions being of a contour to receive the securing wires indicated at 13, and which has its extremities extending upwardly above the upper edges of the top of the box, the intermediate portions of the wires being se cured to the sides and bottom of the box as by means of the staples 14.

The wires 13 are arranged in such positions on the box that the upper ends thereof will lie in close proximity to the ends of the plates 9, so that the wires may be extended through the central opening 15 of the respective heads 11, where the same are passed over the upper surface of the heads and downwardly under the heads, the free ends of the respective wires being bent to overlie the heads, as indicated at 16, and more clearly shown by Fig. 4% of the drawings.

From the foregoing it is obvious that due to the construction of the plates 9, the securing wires 13 may be secured to the ends thereof, in a manner to ermit the wires to be readily disconnected rom the plates, all possibility of the wires becoming broken during the bending operation being eliminated, with the result that the wire may be repeatedly employed for securing the cover to the box.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a box construction, a removable cover, a plurality of securing plates having spurs adapted to pass into the cover for curing the plates thereto, securing wires having connection with the box and havin the ends thereof coiled around the ends 0 the plates, and said plates having their ends terminating at points beyond the edges of the cover.
