HURLEY J. TURNER, OE? EMDEN, MISSOURI.
JAW-CINCH.
Application filed April 12, 1920.
To ZZ 107mm @'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, Henner J. TURNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at E1nden. in the county of Shelby and State of Mis/souri, have invented a new and useful Jaw-Cinch, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to restraining devices, and more particularly to devices of this character especially designed for securing an animals jaws in a closed position, to permit the application of a stomach tube, and eliminate any possibility of the animal chewing the tube.
A further object of the invention is to provide a restraining device of this character which may be readily and easily applied to an animals head, the device having means to permit of adjustment thereof, thus adapting the device t'or use in connection with various sized animals.
`With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement ot parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understoodthat changes in the precise embodiment ot the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, wit-hout departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing t The ligure illustrates a perspective view of' the restraining device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device includes the jaw section 5 and nose section G, the section having its ends connected to the metal loops 7 and 8, and secured thereto by means oi the securing elements 9, which may be. in the form ot rivets or the like, and which pass through the section 5.
The section 6, has its ends embracing the metallic loops 10 and 11 respectively, the ends being secured to the loops 10 and 11 by means of the securing elements 12. :in adjusting strap indicated at 13 passes through the loops 8 and 11, and this strap is provided with a plurality ed to accommodate the tongue of the buckle 15, by means may be adjusted toward and away from each other.
The loops 7 and 10 are connected by the draw strap 16, which has one of its ends Se- Specicaton of Letters Patent.
of openings 14 adapt-v of which the loops 8 and 11 Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Serial No. 373,333.
cured to the loop 10, the intermediate poi'- tion thereof passing around one ot the bars oi" the loop 7, and through the loop 10 where the same passes through the buckle 17, which is secured to the section 5 in any suitable manner.
Associated with the nose strap, is a head strap 18 which has its lower end connected to the ring 19, as at 20, while the ring 21 has connection with the buckle 22, through the strap Q3, the apertuied end ot the head strap 18 passing through the buckle 22 to adjustably connect one end ot the strap 18 to the ring 21.
rlhese rings 19 and 21 have connection with the loops 7 8, l() and 1lY respectively, through the medium of the angularly disposed strap elements 24,-, which have their ends secured to the loops and rings as indicated at Due to the construction of the head strap 1S, it is obvious that the device may be adjusted for use in connection with animals heads ot various sizes. In the operation of the device, it it is desired to administer medicine to an animal, and more particularljrv a horse, the restraining device is applied over the horses head, the nose strap being adjusted so that when the draw strap 16 is tightened, the animals teeth of the upper and lower jaws are held into close engagement with each other, permitting a stomach tube t be inserted between the incision teeth. and the inolars.
Having thus descril ed the invention, what l' claim as new is z- A. restraining device including a nose section and a jaw section, a loop member secured to each end ot each section, supporting straps liavino' connection with the loop members, an adjusting strap for adjusting predetermined loop members with relation to each other, a draw strap having connection with one oi the loop members and adapted to pass through the adjacent loop member, and means carried by one end oic the jaw section to secure the draw strap against displacement.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, l have hereto ailixed my signature in the presence oit two witnesses.
HURLEY J. TURNER.
