ABDOMINAL sUrroR'rER. n
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Mar. 8,1921.
Application led December 27, 1916. Serial No. 139,136.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY E. WAGNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atchison, in the county of Atchison and State ol Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, .such as will enable ,others skilled in the art to which it apperltains to make and use the same.'l
This invention has for its object to provide an improved abdominal supporter which shall be of simple and inexpensive construction and comfortable and effective 1n use.y
Another object is the provision of an ab-` dominal supporter which may be conveniently applied and secured in position by the wearer, and also conveniently adjusted.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction,
combination and arrangement of parts asy will be hereinafter specificallyr descrlbed,
claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawlngs, 1n which:
' Figure 1 represents a front elevation ofv they improvedahdominal supporter,
Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof,
Fig. 3 represents a plan view of the supporter, looking at the outer side,
Fig. 4 represents a detail sectional view through the adjacent edges of the rear sections of the supporter, and i Fig. 5 represents a detail sectional view through one of the sections of the supporter, illustrating the reinforcing elements in detail.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the i yfront section of the supporter, which is pref- 'erably formed of a plurality of pieces of fabric constructed of a material suitable for the purpose. The pieces of the front section are sewed, or otherwise secured together, and are alsojoined bv binding strips 6 in which are fastened the fiexible reinforcing elements 7.
One end of the front sectionv 5 is increased in width, as indicated at 8, and is connected by a plurality of elastic strips 9 with one of the rear sections 10. The other rear section 11 is arranged in spaced relation tothe section ,10 and each of the two sections 1() and 11 is provided in its adjacent end with two spaced reinforcing elements 12, between which are secured eyelets 13 receiving a lace 1&1, whereby the rear sections are adjustably connected. i
The side edge of the rear section 11 op osite the section 10 is connected with a p urality of elastic strips 15 to which is attached a relatively narrow side section 16, the freey edge of which is adapted to underlie the free edge of the front section 5 when the supporter is positioned upon the body of the wearer. i
The edges of the several sections composing the supporter are lsuitably bound and the meeting edges of the front section 5 and side sections 16 are provided with eyelets ,17 and hooks 18, respectively, which are adapted to be connected to secure the supporter in position about the body.
Several of the pieces composing the front section 5 are cut away so as to present substantially V-shaped recesses 19 in the upper edge of the section 5 and elastic inserts 20 are secured to the edges ot' the recesses 19 and thus render the upper edge portion of the front section yieldably extensible. It will be noted that the rear is wider than the front whereby the front is sustained from lowering' on the abdomen.
lVhat I claim is:
An abdominal supporter comprising a pair of back sections having inclined verticaledges, lace connections between said back sections, a narrow side section, elastic connections between said side lsection and one of said Aback sections, a. front section having its rear edge increased in width, elastic connections between` said rear edge of the front section and the remaining back section, all of the edges of the sections being reinforced by flexible reinforcing means, verticali reinforcing flexible members for said front section, and means carried by the free vertical` edges of the front section and the side section to detachablv connect said edges when brought together upon the wearer, the rear of the supporter being of greater width than the front section.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARY E. WAGNER.
