To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BRYANT SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar-lrotectors,- of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a collar attachment, and is in the nature of a device designed to embrace the upper edge of the collar, adjacent each end to prevent the collar from being soiled or losing its stltfness during warm -weather.

The invention has for one of its objects, the provision of a device of the above mentioned character, designed to be readily associated with or removed from the collar as the occasion requires, and to maintain itself in proper position upon the collar when in use.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood .when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the 1nvention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming a part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and where- 1n:-

Figure 1 is a view showing the device in front elevation and applied to a collar.

Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken through the collar and the attachment associated therewith.

The attachment forming the subject matter of my invention consists of a single blank of material indicated at 10 in Fig. 4, adapted to be folded along predetermined lines to assume the shape illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. The material from which the attachment is formed may be of any suitable character, preferably one possessing a certain degree of stiffness or rigidity, of waterproof qualities, such as celluloid or the like, although any material suitable for the purpose may be used. The attachment comprises two members 11 and 12 respectively. which in blank form are spaced apart but connected at one end by means of a narrow strip 13, while the members 11 and 12 are of equal lengths, the member 11 is slightly wider than the member 12, and is adapted to be folded approximately along its longitudinal center into substantiall' U-shaped formation in cross section. The fold line for the member 11 is indicated at 14: in Fig. 4. The strip 13 is also adapted to be folded on the line 15 to position the member 12 between the parallel sides 16 of the member 12 after 1t has been folded in a manner thus stated. This position of parts is clearl illustrated in Fig. 2, wherein it wil be noted that the member 12 projects a slight distance below the parallel sides 16 of the member 11. In addition to this construction and arrangement of parts described, the attachment as a unit is slightly curved to conform to the curvature of the collar with which it is associated in the manner shown in Fig. 1.

In the use of the device, the parts are normally arranged in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2 and during the application of the attachment to the collar, the member 12 is separated from the member 11 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 3 a slight distance. The member 11 is then arranged to embrace the upper edge of the collar in which position, the parallel sides 16 are arranged against the inner and outer folds of the collar as shown in Fig. 5. The member 11 is positioned upon the collar by sliding the same along the upper. edge of the collar from the meeting ends thereof, and While the member 11 is being thus associated with the upper edge of the collar, the member 12 is passed between the inner and outer folds of the collar and arranged'in the manner shown in Fig. 5. The member 12 thus serves to prevent the member 11 from moving upwardly or away from the collar. From the disclosure in Fig. 1, it is apparent that two of such devices are used in connection with each collar, and by reason of the fact that the attachment is held in position upon the collar through the instrumentality of the member 12, it is obvious that the attachment can be readily applied to or removed from the collar when the occasion requires. The attachment in place serves to protect the collar from being soiled, or from breaking along the upper edge from the effects of perspiration in warm weather.

The invention is extremely simple in construction, being formed from a single blank of material, and can obviously be manufactuned and sold at a very nomlnal cost.

In Fig. 6, I have shown the attachment used in connection with different style collars, and in which instance, the member 12 is arranged upon the inside of the collar, between the latter and the adjacent wall 16 of the member 11.

While I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment ofthe invention, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself in this connection, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of What is claimed.

Having thus described myinvention what I claim as new is:

1. A collar attachment formed from a single blank of material and comprising two spaced parallel members, and a narrow strip connecting said members at one end, one 'of said members being folded along its longi: tudinal center to provide a channel member, and said strip being bent across its transverse center to position the other member within said channel member.

2. A collar attachment formed from a single blank of material and comprising spaced parallel members of substantially the same length but varying in ,width, a narrow strip connecting said members at one end the relatively wide member being folded along its longitudinal center to form a channel, and said strip being bent across its transverse member to position the other member within said channel, said attachment in its entirety curved to conform to the shape of the collar.
