TOY; Y
Specification of Iier/ters Patent. Patented Fel). 15, 1921.
Application filed March 19, 1920. Serial I\u.-367,079.
To all w kom it may concern Be it known that l., there KERN, a citizen of the United States, residingat Bridgewater, in the lcounty ot lVashtenaw, Statev ot' lVlichig-an. have invented a new and `useful Toy; and l do hereby declare the lollowing` to be a full, clear. and exact descrip tion ot the invention7 such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it rappen twins to make and use the same.
The invention relates to toys and has for its object to provide a toy wherein a figure representing; a humanbeing or an animal ii so desired is pivoted to the upper endoi reciprocating members so that said figure may be caused to move as desired asa source ot amusement ior children.
A further object is to provide a pair or reciproeating members slidable in guides oli each other, to the upper ends of which a pivoted arm and a pivoted leg of a ligure representing a man are pivoted.y said members being so pivoted to the arm and leg of the figure that as the reciprocating menibers are reciprocated the ligure will be caused to dance or bow. The pivoted legi' however, being,- so pivoted, shaped and positioned that as the member to which the arm is pivoted is moved upwardly, said arm and member will come into Contact with the iront edge of the pivoted leg` so that the Figure will be raised and the tixed arm in engagement with the reciprocated member to which the pivoted arm is pivoted for hold-V ingthe ligure in an upright position.
l'Vith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as lhereinafter set .toi-th, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood thatl changes in the 'precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings z- Figure l is a side elevation oi' the toy showing the figure in upright position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation oi" ing the figure in a bowed position and readyr to be forced upwardly by the engaging of the operating member with the front edge ot the pivoted leg of the ligure.
Referring to the drawings the numerals l. and 2 designate reciprocating bars, which bars are slidably mounted in bearing` 3 carried by the bar 2 and bearing 4 carried by the bar the toy showl. ylt will be seen that either bar l or 2 may be reciprocated ineilependently or simultaneously it so desired. Pivotally secured to the upper endoi the bar 2 as at 5' is a pivoted legv 6, which leg is pivoted to a ligure77 as at S. The leg` 9-01 the lfigure is not a pivoted leg and its forward edge is curved as at l0, also the -forward edge oit the pivoted leg is curved as at 10a. The curved portion l0 ol the pivoted leg- 6 as the bar l is moved upwardly from its down position as shown in Fig. 2 to its up position as shown in Fig. l engages the curvature lOa oi the pivoted leg' so that the figure will be force-d to an upright position as shown in Fig. l. The upper end of the bar l is pivoted as at 'l1 to a pivoted arm l2, which pivoted arm is pivoted as at 13 to the body of the ligure T. thereby allowingthe ligure to assume the position shown in VFig'. 2 on the downward movement of the bar l. The upward move-ment of the pivoted arrnl2 is limited in its upward movement by the end lilthereoi coming; into engagement with the under edge of the permanently fixed arm which arm maintains the figure in its upward position as shown in Fig. l.
lt will be seen that as the end lil ot the slidable member l slides along the curved edge i0 oi"- the legl '6, that the figure 7 will be raised partially to an upright position by means of the pivoted arm 12. VPhe final movement of the arm positions the figure so that the end le oit the member l will engage under the permanently 'fixed' arm l5 and maintain the nurein an upright position as shown in Fig. l ot the drawing. The more ment oil the figure may be a limited one and may consist of a rapid reciprocation of the member l it so desired.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and usei'ul is z# l. A toy comprising a figure, said ligure being` provided with a pivoted leg and a pivoted arm pivoted to one side of t ie body`r one arm of the gure being' rigid and` et@ tending forwardly and being` integra joined to the body, reciproeatin?? members slidable in Vnudes carried by said members, the upper ends'ojl said reciprocating; members being pivoted to the pivotedarm andV to the pivoted legi` and forming means whereby the iigure will be caused'to move d bow as the reciprocating.; members are moved in relation to each other, 'therigid arm of the ure forming means for engagingthe end of one of the reciprocating members and limitingV its movement upwardly.
2. A toy comprising a iigure, said ligure being provided with a pivoted leg and a pivoted arm pivot-ed 'to one side of the figure7 one arm of the figure being rigid and extending' forwardly and being Vintegrally joined thereto, reciprocating operating bars slidable in guides carried by each other, one of said bars being pivotally connected to the end of the pivoted arm and in a position to vContact with the under edge of the lixed varm for limiting the downward movement of. the figure and upward movement of said bar; the other bar having its upper end pivotally Connected to the pivoted leg ofthe igure `and positioned so that the iiXed leg of the figure when the ligure is in downposition will be to one side of the pivoted leg so that as the bar which is pivoted to the pivoted arm is forced upwardly it will engage the front edge oi' the pivoted leg and 'r'oree the iigure to an upright position, said reciprocating bar maintaining the igure in upright position by engagement with the under edge of the fixed arm. o
