Description
N UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
e. CHRISTIAN IDLY, 0E BUELINGAME, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,731, dated March 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, G. CHRISTIAN IDLY, of Burlingame, in the county of Osage and State of Kansas, have` invented `a new and valuable Improvement in Door-Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot' the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and iigures' of reference marked thereon.
Figurel of the drawing is a vertical section 0f my door-fastener. Fig. 2 is a front View, of same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of same.
This invention has relation to devices for fastening doors when the same are open; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the latch, the latch-holder, catch, and India-rubber cushion for breakin g the force of the concussion caused bythe forcible opening orswinging backward of the door, all substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the latch-holder, consisting of a hanged recessed block of metal screwed to the Iioor at the place to which the door is swung when opened to its utmost limit. B designates the latch, having its hook turned upward, and having its inner end tted into a recess and ypivoted, as shown. The hook of said latch is beveled and engages automatically with a box-catch,
C, or a similar device secured to the door. A lever, D, constructed with a foot-piece, d, is pivoted above, and rests on said latch, and
hence, when pressed down, releases the latter from the catch, allowing the door to be closed. A spring, E, occupying a recess in the block A below the. latch, maintains the latter in a position to engage with the catch and hold the door. A plate, F, secured to the face of the block A, holds said spring in place'. This plate is slotted to allow the latch to work. G represents an India-rubber cushion embedded in a recess above the lever D, and designed to break the force of the concussion of the catch and to prevent the lever from being raised too high by the spring.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The latchholder A, having the beveled latch B, spring E, pivoted foot-lever D, and Indiarubber cushion G, in combination with a catchbox C, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
. G. CHRISTIAN IDLY. Witnesses:
J. M. CHAMBERS, C. R. ROGERS.
