HUBERT M. GREIST AND GEORGE L. HINMAN, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, AS-
SIGNORS TO THE GBEIST MANUFACTURING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF GON- SEWING-MACEINE-ATTACHMENT BOX.
Specification of LettersPatent. t t 1 2 Applicatiomflled .Tune 7, 1919. Serial No. 302,425.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HUBERT M. GREIST and GEORGE L. HINMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing- Machine-Attachment Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention has for its object to provide a sewing machine attachment box with top and bottom linings suitable for printing thereon the names of the different attachments adjacent the interior clips by which said attachments are to be held in place in the box, so that the attachments may be properl assembled in the box, and after havin een taken out of the box for use can be rea ily replaced in their proper positions, thus avoiding the disorder and inconvenience from impro er arrangement of the attac ments in the ox, and enablin the user to ascertain at a glance whet er or not the attachments are all in the box. The top and bottom linings, or the linings for the inside of the cover and the bottom of the box, will preferably be of some suitable ornamental aper, as, for example, green paper wit a pebbled or slightly rou hened surface, this paper being referably t in and pasted to pieces of cardoard of a suitable size and shape to fit within the box; or the lining may consist of this cardboard only, having a suitable ornamental finish and on which the names of the attachments may be printed. The attachment-holding clips are preferably struck up from and are thus formed integral with racks consisting of thin metal plates which are secured, preferably b rivets, to the cardboard lining arts, smal reinforcing metal pieces being p aced at the backs of the cardboard linings to give the rivets a proper hold in the cardboard. Suitable means are provided for securing the stiff cardboard or other lining parts, on which the names of the attachments are rinted, in place inthe cover and box, as will ereinafter appear.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved attachment box with the attachments removed, Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the attachments in place, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on line 33, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes a sheet meta box, and 13 denotes the cover thereof, these parts being connected by suitable hinges 14. The box 12 is provided at its bottom with a paper or cardboard lining 15 and the cover 13 is provided at the inside of its top with a similar paper or cardboard lining 16. Suitably secured, as by rivets 17, to the bottom lining part 16, is a thin sheet metal strip or rack 18 from which are struck up clips l9which are properly constructed and arranged to hold a ruffler 20, a presser foot 21 and a tucker or tuck creaser 22. Also suitably secured, as by rivets 17, to the cover linin part 16, is a sheet metal strip 23 from w ich are struck up clips 24 suitably formed and located for holding four different sized hemmers 25 and a binder 26. The lining parts above referred to have printed thereon the names of the attachments which are to be held in place by the several clips, these names being properly arranged with reference to the several clips so as to indicate what particular attachment is to be held by each clip; and these names, or most of them, are preferably so arranged that they will be concealed by the attachments when the latter are in their proper positions, so that the packed set of attachments is not rendered unattractive by a lot of printed matter.
To retain the lining parts in place in the box and cover suitable internal lugs or projections are provided. These holding lugs or projections may consist of indented ribs 27, or may be otherwise formed so as to consist, for example, of inturned projections 28 formed integral with the hinge plates 29 riveted to the box 12; or similar projections secured in a similar manner to other parts of the box or cover. The indented projections are preferable, however, as they are more easily formed and are more sightly in that they do not require the use of solder in attaching them in place and do not require the use of rivets showing on the outside of the box.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the invention provides a sewing machine attachment box which is furnished with lining parts on which the names of the attachments may be printed to indicate the positions, in the box, of the several attachments, and Which attachment box is provided With suitable means for retaining the stiff lining parts in place.
Having thus described our invention we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A sewing machine attachment box formed of sheet metal and having stiff lining parts on the inside of the cover and box proper, racks secured to said lining parts and provided with clips for holding the attachments,
said lining parts having printed thereon, adjacent to said clips, the names of the illiterent attachments, said box being provided With indented lugs for retaining said stiff lining parts in place in the box.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures.
