HAIR FOUNDATION.
specieation of Letters Patent. Patented JmL 11,` 1921 Application led March 12, 1920. Seria12No."365,194.
fo all whom 'it may concern Be it known that we, ROBERT SCHRAN- BLUu and .GRACE SOHEANBLUM, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Danbury, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Foundations, of which the following is a speci fication. n
The invention relates to improvements in hair foundations, adapted for producing a roll effect.
It is an object of the invention to provide a foundation by which an attractive roll may be given the hair toproduce a puff effect, which is composed of relatively light material and fashioned to enable a free circulation of air beneath the hair.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a foundation having hair supporting members adapted to receive the strands of hair therebetween and serve to bind. or tie the hair within the foundation when the same is rolled to form a puff.
IVith the foregoing conception in mind, the invention primarily comprises a support or foundation having a pair. of spaced curved supports extending above the base of the foundation and 'possessing inherent resiliency, receiving therebetween a roll of hair, and serving to exert a slight pressure thereon to assist in holding the hair within the foundation against slipping when the hair is rolled thereon to produce the puff effect. v
In the accompanying drawings, we have disclosed a single embodiment of the invention, but it will be understood that the same is susceptible to many changes without departing from the spirit of the invention.l
In the drawings, Figure l represents a view of the device as being applied to the hair of the user; and Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are detail views.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral l designates the base of the support which is disclosed as being of a substantially rectangular formation, and composed of relatively light wire which is preferably wrapped with a fabric.
Ifhe base is provided with a continuation 2 forming a transverse support 3 which is bowed and extends well above the base entirely thereacross, being connected to the opposits side thereof by twisting the ends 0f the material as indicated by the reference y character 5. At the point 2 the wire of the base extends through a loop in the twisted portion 5 and then outwardly at right angles to form the support 3 which also serves to connect the material forming the base,v
Extending parallel with the support 3 is a second support 4, which is bowed in the same manner as the support 3 and is connected to the sides of the base by the twisting of the material thereof as indicated by the reference character 6. The two supports 3 and 4 are composed of a resilient material being spaced throughout their length to`v form an opening receiving therebetween the strands of hair as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The coil of hair 7 in this figure is first passed between one side of the base l and up over the curved support 4, thence downwardly into the space between the sup port 4 and the support 8 and finally around the opposite side of the base and over the top of the entire support. flien thus passed through the different strands of the base, the hair is securely clamped or held by the wire elements thereof, and the entire support is then rolled to distribute the hair thereover and produce a puff effect.
The hair when thus distributed over the base gives the appearance of an abundance of hair, without resorting to switches and the like, and when the foundation is finally rolled and placed in position the hair will be firmly held between the wire strands thereof to prevent a slipping of the same..
In Fig. 2 we have disclosed a slightly differentway of securing the hair to the form. In this disclosure the hair 7 passes under one side of the base, over both of the supports 3 and 4, and then down under the other side of the base to be later returned as shown in Fig. 4. Here the resiliency of the different elements of the base serves to grip or hold the hair, and the support may be rolled without the liability of the hair becoming disengaged therefrom.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim is: v
1. A hair support of the character described comprising a relatively flat base, and a plurality of curved supporting elements connected with the ends of the base and extending thereacross, said supporting ele ments being parallel throughout their length and spaced from the sides of the base.
2. A hair foundation comprising a base having side and end portions, and hair supe porting elements Consisting,` of spaced parallel members Connected with the end portions 5 of the base and being disconnected from the side portions thereof throughout their length.
3. A hair foundation of the character described comprising a base of metallic mate` `of the base throughout their length.
In testimony whereof We affix our signatures.
