D AFT-Benetton v Patented Nov. 23,1920.
Application filed October 20, 1919. Serial No. 331,902.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I FREDERICH DANIEL Knns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beatrice, in the county of Gage and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Draft-Deflector, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to draft deflectors, and has as its primary object to provide a deflector for preventing drafts from entering the room but which will not exclude the light from the room.
A further object of the invention is to provide a deflector of this character which embodies transparent panes, a novel and improved mounting being provided for the transparent panes which will retain the same against any vibration whatsoever and which will permit the ready removal of the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a deflector which will exclude drafts from room and which may be applied to any window without changing the parts thereof. I
An additional object of the invention is to provide a draft deflector which is simple in construction, which consists of few parts,
' and which may be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
iVith the above and other objects and ad I vention being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Flgure 1 1s a fragmentary front elevatlon of a window embodying my improvements,
and
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 illustrates a transverse sectional View through the supporting bar and plate.
of the window is an I-shaped bar 6 which has one end bent laterally to provide a securing latch 7 which is secured to the window sill. This I-shaped member includes a flat bar of metal and a length of sheet metal, the latter being formed with a longitudinal depression 9 for providing flange 10 form ing guides or grooves 10"at the opposite "openings formed inthe bar6 and length of sheet metal 9.
End plates 11 are mounted at opposite sides of the window, the I-shaped member being disposed centrally of the end plates and extends vertically and at an angle. The inner ends of these end plates 11' are bent at right-angles as at 11 andsecured to the window frame by fastenings 12, passing through the elongated openings 13 formed therein. The forward longitudinal edges of these end plates are bent inwardly and at right-angles and cotiperate with the clips 14 stamped from the bodyof each flange 11, the same being disposed inspaced relation with each other to provide window pane supporting flanges 13, these'plates being bent so that these flanges extend at the same angle as the bar 6, from each of the plates and are extended inwardly and arranged parallel with the flanges 11. Transparent panes 15 are engaged in the grooves of the I-shaped bar and between the flanges and the clips on the end plates.
The embodiment of the invention herein shown and described is considered the pre ferred construction, but it is to be understood that inodifications can be made in the invention in many respects and that my limits of such modification are only governed by the appended claims.
What is claimed is 1. In a draft deflector, a bar having one end bent laterally and secured to the window sill, the bar being disposed at an oblique angle, a plate secured to the barhaving a central longitudinal depression whereby grooves are formed at opposite sides of the same, end plates secured to the opposite sides. of the window frame and transparent panes engaged in the grooves and engaged by the end plates. V
2. In a draft deflector, end plates secured to the opposite sides of the window frame having lnwardly extending flanges formed at its longitudinal edges, the flanges being disposed at an oblique angle, an angularly struck from the end plates and overlying the edges of the panes to prevent the same 10 from moving in one direction.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
'FREDERICH DANIEL KEES.
