Description
1. W. RUNSER.v
ATTACHMENT FOR HOLDING DISINFECTANTS.
APPLICATION mw fm2. 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JESS WILLIAM RUNSER, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
Application led February 2, 1920. Serial No. 355,796.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Jnss W. RUNsnn, a citizen of the United States. residing at Fort Wlayne, in the county of Allen' and State of indiana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in J-rttachments for Holding Disinfectants, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a disinfectant holder for toilet bowls or the like.
A n important object of the inventionis to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is extremely simple, strong and adapted to be secured to the toilet bowl without the aid of the separate attaching means.
A further object of the invention is to provide a resilient coil spring, for receiving disinfectant balls. the ends of the spring serving to close the ends of the coil, and also as attaching means.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
ln the awompanying crawings forming al part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure l is a vertical section through the toilet bowl, showing my device in place thereon, 1
n ig. 2 is a vertical section on line $4?. of Fig. l, and,
Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
,in the drawings. wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a toilet bowl or re^eptacle, of any well known or preferred construction. This bowl is shown as provided with a conduit 6. having apertures 7, for the discharge of the water into the bowl or receptacle 5, as shown.
ls/ly improved disinfe'tant holder comprises a tubular body portion 8, formed of a resilient retractile coil spring. This coil spring S has ends 9, bent from the end turns l0. of the spring, and these ends are preferably arranged diametricallv of Vthe coil spring, to prevent the disinfectant elements or balls from rolling out of the device. These diametrically arranged ends are inserted in selected apertures 7. and their tips 1l are preferablv curved or bent. to prevent the accidental removal of the ends 9.
In the use of the device, the tips 1l may be 'straightened to permit of the ends 9 passing into the apertures 7. These ends are inserted into the apertures 7, which are sutli ciently spaced to place the spring as a whole under retraction, which opens the'turns, and securely holds the device in place. The openingof the turns, increases the opening area of the device, and permits of the free flow of the water therethrough. The disinfectant elements or balls are ordinarily inserted in the spring, before the device is placed in position, the ends 9 being swung laterally sufficiently to permit of the passage of the balls. i
lt is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
'Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. rThe combination with a toilet receptacle having apertures for the passage of water therein, of a. coil spring arranged within the receptacle and having its ends bent laterally and inserted within selected apertures, said ends serving to positively hold the coil spring in place in a distended condition.
2. T he combination with a toilet receptacle having apertures for the passage of water therein, of a coil spring arranged within the receptacle and having integral ends bent across its ends to prevent the disinfectant element .from passing from the spring, said ends being inserted within sele'ted apertures and serving to positively hold the coil spring in place in a distended condition.
3. T he combination with a toilet receptacle having apertures. of a coil spring arranged therein and having its ends bent a'ross its ends and arranged diametricallv thereof. the ends Pariying hooked tips. said ends being adapted for insertion in selected apertures.
'In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
