Description

PATENT ELIJAH A. FREEMAN, OF MOSOONV, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN RAZGRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135/793, dated February 11, 1' 3.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH A. FREEMAN,
. of Moscow, in the county of Luzerne and State ofPenn sylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Razors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- 1 Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the blade and back separated; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the back and blade.
Similar letters of reference in the acco1npanyin g drawing denote the same parts.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of razors in such a manner that the thin part of the blade can, at any time, be separated from its thick part or back in order to the reception and preservation of a thinner edge than is possible when the blade cannot be separated from-the back to this end the invention consists'in the combination of a blade and back pivoted together, and to the handle, at points near one end of each, the back being grooved along its front edge to receive the biade, as I will now proceed to describe.
In the drawing, A is the blade, and B the back, the latter having a groove, 2), extending lengthwise of its front side from end to end. The inner end of the back B is bifurcated, and between the forks thereof the shank of the blade is inserted, a common pivot serving to connect both back and blade to the handle 0.
The back B can at any time be turned against the rear of the handle, leaving the blade to be ground or honed with a thinner, sharper edge than could be put upon it, if not separable from the back like ordinary razors.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is I The combination of a razor blade and back pivoted together and to the handle at points near one end of each, the back being grooved along its front edge to receive the blade, substantially as described.
' ELIJAII FREEMAN.
