Weather-Strips. No. 135,627. l Patented Feb. 11,1373.

ISAAC CASE, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 35,627, dated February 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concerm Be it known that I, ISAAC OASE, of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a certain Automatic feather-Strip for Doors, ot which the following is a specification curved inward. b b is a metal strip, curved outward on the top edge, and hooked into and hinged to the lower edge of the iixed strip cl a. c is a catch riveted to, or swaged in, the end of b b. A pin or its equivalent passes through the hinged strip b b to prevent it from moving laterally. d el is a pivoted bent lever permanently attached to the door. A hook on its lower end is formed to slip into and out of the catch c on the strip b b. The upper end is bent at a right angle to reach to and press against the stop f attached to the door-facin g. When the door closes the upper endl of the pivoted lever cl ol is arrested by the stop f, and lifted and freed at its lower endfrom the catch c. This action allows the hinged strip b b to fall and close the crevice under the door.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing the door opened inward and the strip b b elevated and held in position by the lever (l ol, in such a manner that it will move with the door and not drag, scrape, or catch on the carpet or floor. The act of opening the doorfrees the lever from the stop fand allows it to drop into the catch c, while the strip b b is raised and passes over the swell or strip commonly fixed on the threshold. j e
Claim.
I claim as my invention- The strips a a and b b, the catch c, the bent lever cl d, and the stop f, made, combined, and operated with a door, in the manner described and for the purposes specified.
