Corrnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Atlanta, in the county of Fulton. and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Platen-Presses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in attachrnents for platen presses, and has for its object to provide an attachment of the char-v acter specified, especially adapted for use with platen presses equipped with Miller feeders for converting such presses into envelop presses.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a platen pres's provided with the attachment.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lower end of one of the clips. I
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the lower end of the other clip.
In the present embodiment of the invention a pair of clips 1 and 2 is provided which are adapted to be arranged upon the platen 3 in spaced relation, being spaced apart slightly less than the length of the en velop. The clip 1 has two lugs 4 at one side edge, and one lug 5 at the other side edge, and the clip 2 is similarly provided with lugs 6 and 7 similarly placed. These lugs are adapted to fit into slits 7 in the tympan to hold the clips in place, and each clip is provided at each inner end with means for engaging above the envelop to position the same, and to hold it from off the platen so that the delivery fingers can get the envelops, the said envelop being indicated at 8.
The clip is provided at its inner end with an upwardly offset integral tongue 9, which extends below the lower edge of-the clip 1 as clearly shown, and is upwardly curved at its free end as indicated at 10. This tongue has a section 11 which is adjustably connected therewith, the body 9 of the tongue having over-lying flanges 12 forming guides at its upper end, in which the section 11 is Specification of Letters Patent.

slidable. The clip 9 is provided with an upwardly offset portion 13 at its inner end, which portion extends beyond the lower end of the clip as shown, and is bent upwardly as indicated at 14:.
A series of quads or guide pins 15 is arranged between the clips at the upper end thereof, and the register fork 16 extends below the quads or guide pins. A pair of plates or bars 16 is arranged at the lower end of the platen, the free upper ends of the bars extending beneath the envelops when positioned as shown. These bars 16 are iooked under the bail as shown, and extend just beneath. the edge of the envelop to hold it lifted from the platen so that the delivery fingers can'engage beneath the same.
I claim:
1. An attachment for platen presses for converting them into envelop presses, comprising a pair of clips having lugs for engaging slits in the tympan to hold the clips in place, said clips being adapted to be spaced apart less than the length of an envelop, each clip having at its inner end an upwardly ofiiset portion adapted to overlie envelope, each of the said portions having a tongue extending beyond the adjacent side edge of the clip toward the delivery side of the platen, one of said clips having an extension tongue adjustably connected with the upwardly offset tongue and extending in the opposite direction.
2. An attachment for platen presses for converting them into envelop presses, comprising a pairv of clips having lugs for engaging slits .in the tympan to hold the clips in place, said clips being adapted to be spaced apart less than the length of an envelop, each clip having at its inner end an upwardly offset portion adapted to overlie envelops, each of the said portions having a tongue extending beyond the adjacent side edge of the clip toward the delivery side of the platen.
