PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER J. STOOKEY, .OF VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION-GARMENT.
Application filed April 10, 1919.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WALTER J. SrooKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vallejo, in the county of Solano and State of California, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Combination- Garments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as'will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a combinedvest or coat and front covering, such as an apron, which may be easily and inexpensively manufactured,
which may be applied with ease ant. which may be conveniently laundried, the device being intended for butchers, carpenters, printers, pattern makers, grocers, bench ma chinists, etc, according to its construction.
In carrying out the above end, I make use of certain novel features of construction and arrangement, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings,
Figure l is a front elevation of the ment applied.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of ment detached.
Fig. i is a perspective with the vest extensions partly removed.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a front covering which is shown in the form of an apron, although a bifurcated covering for the legs mi ht well be substituted. therefor. Iiy preference formed integrally with the upper garthe arend of the covering 1 and of equal width, is
a half vest front 2 having a narrow extension 3 on its upper end passing over one shoulder and to a point 4 and back of the neck opening 5. The upper of the ialf vest front 2 and its extension 3 extends from the point .4: over the shoulder, and then diagonally downward across the front of the garment adjacentto one edge of the covering 1, point 6Q A second vest half 7 is provided to cotiperate with the half 2 in forming a complete vest front, the upper end of said half 7 having a narrow extension 8 which extends over the other shoulder and around the back of the garment, and is stitched or' otherwise secured to the extension 3 at the point 4. The lower edge 9 of the vest front half 7 follows the Specification of Letters Patent.

inclination of the upper edge of the half 2 and by means of buttons 10 or any other preferred fasteners, the two halves may be secured together.
A vest back 11 overlaps the extensions 3 and 8 at its upper end and is stitched thereto' at 12, the vertical edges of .said back being stitched at '13 to the vest front halves 2 and 7. Appropriate arm holes 1% are of cour e provided and if desired, sleeves may be employed.
By the diagonal split across the front of the vest, at least half of said vest front and the front covering 1 may be cut from the same length of material, and in addition, fewer buttons are required than when the vest is split vertically down the front and then horizontally at the upper edge of the apron or the like. Furthermore, the garment may be more easily applied by using the diagonal split and may be more conveniently laundried.
Excellent results have been obtained from using the details above disclosed and they may therefore be followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may well be made, and it is, of course, understood that pockets may be attached wherever needed and that sleeves may be added if desired.
I claim:
A combination garment comprising a front apron having at its upper end a half vest front whose upper end is provided with a narrow lateral extension, the upper edge of said half Vest front and its extension passing completely over one shoulder, and diagonally to one edge of said front apron, a second vest front half co-acting with that aforesaid to form a complete vest front said second half having a narrow lateral extension on its upper end passing completely ov 1- the other shoulderand stitched to the afore said extension at the back of the neck opening, a vest back attached to said extensions and to said vest front halves, and terminating at the waist line, and fasteners for securing said halves together, said second half having a diagonal lower edge to overlap said diagonal upper edge of the other half.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
