IMPRQVEMENT IN CORN-CULTIVATORS.

To all whom, it muy concern:

Beit known that I, IRA EMRICK, of Vernon, in the county of Shiawassee and State ot' Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable and Reversible Gorn-Cultivator, and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying` drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved implement. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation.

Like letters refer to like parts in each ligure.

The nature of this invention relates to a corncultivator, so arranged that it may be adjusted to varying distances between rows, and that it may be reversed so to throw the earth away from or toward the hills, as desired. The invention consists in the arrangement of the devices by which the adjustability and reversibility ot' thc implement are secured.

In the accompanyingdrawing, A represents a beam, to which is secured the clevis B and the guiding-handles C. D is a standard, secured rigidly to the beam A, as shown, and to the bottom of this standard is secured the double mold-board E, of the form shown, to turn the earth both ways from the point. F are other standards, the upper ends of which are sleeved on the cross-brace Gr in such a manner that they may be adjusted laterally on said brace, and held at any desired point by means of the set-screws or bolts H. rIhis cross-brace Gis secured to the handles in such a manner that it may be easily removed. I is a yoke, secured at the center of its length to the rear end of' the beam A by means ot' the clamp J. The outer ends of this yoke pass through eye-bolts K, by means of which thc standards F are secured to said yoke. L are braces, by means of which the standards derive their draft from the beam, to which the forward ends ot these braces are secured by the bolt M. To the bottom ends of these standards F are secured the single mold-boards N, of the shape shown in the drawing, and which should be rigidly fastened to said stand ards.

To adj ust this implement to varying widths, the bolts II and the eyebolts K should be loosened and the standards F moved outwardly or inwardly, as may be desired, when the bolts should be tightened.

To reverse the position of the standards F with their accompanying mold-boards from the position shown in the drawing, so as to throw the earth away from the rows, the bolt M should be withdrawn, thereby releasing the forward ends ot' the braces L. Then loosen the bolts H and eyebolts K, and remove the cross-brace G; then slide the standards off from the yoke I and the cross-brace G, and reverse said standards in their positions, and secure them in pla-ce by reversing the operations just described.

VVh-at I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

'Ihe described method of securing the stand ards and beams together by means ot' the cross-.bar I, eyebolt K, and staple J, as and for the purpose set forth.
