AM. PHOTO-LITPIOSRAFH/C 00. N Y,(ossows1s moms) PATENT OFFICE.
MELVIN STONE, OF VERMILLION, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SELF-WAITING TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,382, dated January 28, 1873.
, To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, MELVIN STONE, of Vermillion, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable ma- I chine, aTableWaiter, called HelpYourself,
and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
This invention has relation to a revolving dining-table; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the parts of an auxiliary table to be used in connection with adining-table, holding cruets and other articles, all substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the post which holds the revolving tables, and which is supported by a foot, a. B designates the lower, and B the upper table, of which the latter is the smaller. The post A passes through the center of the former and through its hub E, and also through the hub E of the upper table. The hubs E E are attached, respectively, to the upper and lower surfaces of their respective tables, which they keep at a proper distance apart and serve to brace. The hubs come together at their apexes, being 00- noidal in form. F designates knobs, by means of which the tables are moved. G designates cruet-stands attached to the upper table in such a way that the cruets may hang over the edge of the table and be thus brought within easy reach of the guests. H represents a handle attached to the upper end of the shaft A, whereby the stand may be easily carried.
This revolving stand is placed in the center I of a dining-table, and the different dishes of food placed thereon. -Each person may now help himself to what is nearest him, and by turning the revolving platform bring in succession each article of food to his plate. Thus all may be served in nearly the same time usually occupied in serving one, and the inconvenience of passing and repassing dishes about the table be avoided.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved dining-table stand, consisting of the shaft A, revolving tables B B, having the conoidal bubs E E, and provided, respectively, with the cruet-stands G and knobs F substantially as specified.
In testimony. that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
MELVIN STONE.
